I just bought a Design Tech Ready Remote 23927 for my 97 accord. Does anyone have any experience with this model: headsup/tips on installation. The manufacturer claims pretty simple DYI job...

p.s. also could use a source for the wiring diagram for the car

Thanks in advance.

I am exactly in the same position. 97 accord and bought the 23927 from advance auto. But I can always return it. Should I buy this unit or DEI valet 561R. I dont mind the single remote but is the valet more reliable?

Did you install the thing? How was/is it?

thanks in advance

I wouldn't suggest Autocommand. If you are a DIYer, than you pretty much have to, but if you can't get it to work, you will have to take it to a pro, and they will charge you more to install an Autocommand.

The newer cars are making these things much too difficult for DIYers. Pre-90's, yes, you could install your own remote starter, but things have gotten much more complicated in automotive electronics since then.

call design tech. ive had problems with their remote starts in the past and just called them up and they emailed me the wiring diagram. it is pretty easy to install, just getting everything programmed how you want it is the trickiest.

Thanks guys for all your suggestions! Last week I did finally install the design tech unit in my car and it works pretty good so far. Was'nt that painful. But I am sure one of the requirements for this job is being 5 feet high and skinny :bingo

I am sure you guys are all pro's in here so this would not be any helpful but I had posted it on another group...

Some experiences.

1. Check the Ignition2 and Acc. wire very thoroughly. I think it is differnt for many cars. I used wiring diagrams from like 4 different sources and asked quite a few people about it. Many of them said

Ign2 - White/Black Acc - Yellow

and some of them said Ign2- Yellow and Acc- White/Black.

In my car it turned out be the second one

Ign2 - Yellow Acc- White/Black. Same as what the online Helms manual for the 94 coupe says.

But I know of atleast 2 other people who had it the other way round.

2. The design tech unit has to be initialized by going through a sequence of hood opening, braking etc. I did all that and nothing happened! Tried it for 10-15 mins. then I thought maybe the unit is defective. I started the car with the key just to make sure that it works and lo behold the unit's LED blinked signalling that it is initialized.

Awesome! Congratulation! It works pretty fine. In the cold weather I have developed some problem. every few days, the unit stops to respond, if I shake it a bit, it works. maybe some wire is loose. will have to check.
