Separating film and release liner

Do you separate the film from the liner or Do you separate the liner from the film. Because I learned how to hand cut before I got my plotter I had never really thought about it, but having excess film surrounding the pattern has given me cause to wonder, plus how does having a graphic cut on the film affect your style of removal.

I have not worked with vinyl yet so my answer is tint. With PPF you remove the liner from the film. But just for the knowledge what is the process for vinyl.

also if its dry adheasive you can flick the edge, or lay the tint on a glass with the liner side up. and use your fingernail to scrape sideways on the clear.
