I've never had the cold affect my installs and it dips below 0 on occasion around here. The only problem I have had is when I forget to empty my water bottles and leave them in the truck. :barf

Too cold is when there is potential for the interior glass surface to dip below freezing for more than just a couple of hours.

It also depends on the adhesive system...

Pressure sensitive adhesive is a mechanical adhesive and the water is used only for positioning and moisture extraction. It sticks once its surface strikes the glass surface through applied pressure or as moisture evaporates away causing the film to settle (or pull down) to the surface.

Dry, chemical, water-activated adhesives are a little more prone to problems with moisture freezing before the adhesive has had time to activate and bond to the glass. It is water-activated (not frost activated) and cured by heat...

It also depends whether the glazing is single pane or dual...

Single pane glass can more easily take on the exterior temperature, though warmer because of internal heating (if present), whereas dual pane is less likely to reach an outside temp., because it's prone to be warmed more significantly by the dwelling internal heating.

I'll give you my simplified Canadian version of this :

If it's single pane, don't tint it in below freezing temp.

If it's thermopane and the seal isn't broken and you see no "frozen moisture" around the edges before install ..you should be fine.

If you see frozen moisture around the edges .. most likely too cold for installation.

I've always gone by this and it hasn't steered me wrong :barf

And don't spray the window with hot or warm water

:DD Nothing but boiling water , warm or hot water just wont thaw a frozen thermopane quick enough.

Whatever happened to just installing in direct sunlight when it's cold? :DD

I wasnt sure if the moisture in between the film would take longer to dry or cause drying problems. I guess as long as the dwelling inside temp is warm there shouldnt be a problem.
