Tried an experiment last month..lady came to me with a 98 Subaru Forrester..had one peeling door..easy door to R & R, not my work , she asked if there was anything I could do to it cheaply ,not that she's cheap, just that she was trading it in to the dealer in a couple of days and wanted it looking it's best. I said the only thing that she could do to it was replace it..normally cost $40 ..but it was when I had a break in between cars, so I did it for free for her...she couldn't believe it..she was very thankful..anyways she phoned me up and booked in her new Subaru with me along with her mothers car for a gift , said with customer service like that, she wouldn't even consider phoning around nor even ask how much I was charging...she also is having her friend bring a car to me next week..kinda cool ..only $6 and 15 min. donated by me for time and materials when I had nothing else better to do and got $600 in work back + who knows what ripple effect down the road. Not that it's in my practice to do free doors for people that weren't my customers to begin with, but it was kinda cool.

Nothing beats good word of mouth. There is a tire store here that will fix flats for free. I figured there must be a catch. I asked the manager and he said he is just hoping that people will appreciate the kindness and return there when they need tires. It must work, cause they're always packed.
