hello eveybody!

I am new to the fourm. I am not a Tinter, I am simply an over protective car maniac that has been doing a lot of research before I get my car tinted. I drive a 98 Acura CL and am looking to get it tinted with 20% tint here in Charlotte, NC. (Now, before anyone starts to yell at me for being illligal darkness.......I have read on here about how all of you are very aginst it, however, I am not trying to hide anything from the law, just simply protect the audio equipment in my car from would be window shopping theifs.) I have invested over a grand in my car audio, so keeping it from being seen is what im after.

The place with the best rep here in charlotte is called lightning mikes. I called them today, they quoted me 270 for a full tint and vinyal strip acorss the "dot matrix" on my back window. HOWEVER, they quit carrying 20%...........he said the only percentage below 35% that he carries now is 15 and 5. I am defently not doing 5, people have to be out of their mind to do that!! however, would 15 be bareable?

please give me all of your advice!!! good advice, bad advice, and anything that I should look out for. I am a total perfectionist and have done evey install on my car my self. Its really taking it out of me to let someone else work on my baby.

15 isnt all that much darker than 20, and if you're looking to totally hide your equipment then you're not going to get the effect you want, you can still see in pretty good during the day and with the right light at night time. Of course, I think the only other answer you're gonna get from most guys on here is that "theives have more reason to break into a car with dark windows because that means you have something to hide", plus it gives the police "probable cause" to pull you over. Personally I dont think 15 is that dark for sides and backs but when going lower you're going to have problems backing, turning, and seeing cars coming from the side at night. Believe me I had double five on my sides before and I had to roll my sides down to see to turn at night.

Lightning Mike's is a reputable shop

they use Suntek and Johnson films

if you must have darker film than the law allows

you can usually get a medical exemption

for a lot less than a ticket

The 15 is a good looking film

but no substitute for a good security system

:shock

The medical exemption thing would be a lot less of a price than a ticket, but I feel that I would be abusing the system if I did that.............

What is everyone elses take on it? and how do you go about doing it?

The eye doctors in my area find that most people that prefer dark film

are light sensitive without even knowing it

one way to find out..... visit the Eye Dr.
