Tinted the lancer

:evileye I tinted the lancer that I was talking about.

I did the side windows only since she (my friend) had to go some where. To start off with I couldn't reach the weather strip that I normally would tuck the film into. Called up a shop and asked if they always tuck and they told me that they usually tuck the film but some times they can leave the tint cut right ontop of the weather strip if it is too deep, this just takes longer for the film to settle in and longer to put the windows down.

So I went ahead and did that. I cut the film right at the bottom where the window ends, not tucking it. Besides a few bad cuts (not too noticeable) every thing came out ok. The only thing that was a pain in the ass was the little side back windows. Film kept up getting messed up when I would go to squeege the water out...not sure why.

Anyways, I finished and she had to leave so I told her not to put down the windows for atleast 3 days. On the 3rd day she put it down and the film got messed up (wrinkled, you guys know what I mean). So I was like dammn...ripped off the film. I was expecting to leave a lot of glue but only the passanger window did, now I have to scrape off that glue.

How do you guys recommend that I tint the window if im not going to tuck it. Also this was tint over tint. She already has 35% tint but wanted this tint over it.

This is how I did it:

*Sprayed the outside window with Glass cleaner, whiped, and it was clean.

* Soaked inside window with baby shampoo/water and passed the squeege over and over until it was completely clean

*Sprayed the outside window with babyshampoo/water and layed the film.

* Gave it some heat and using a gold card with sleeve, I smoothed it out

* When it was pretty smooth, I cut the bottom piece, followed by the sides

* Picked up the film and lowered the window about 1" and cut along the glass

* Picked up film and raised the window back up

* Made all the edges round

* Soaked the inside window with shampoo/water

* Lowered the window about 1", peeled off the plastic off of the film, and also soaked the film

* Layed the top piece of the film about 1/4" lower than the top of the window

* Squeeged the top part out good and lightly passed the heat gun around the top part

* Raised the window and layed the rest of the film on the window

* I always do a cross when I start squeeging the water out then I go from the middle down a few times, middle up and side to side.

* I also spray some water of the outside of the film to allow the squeege to slide easier on the window

* I then started getting a lot of "lines" of water which I gave heat until they shrivled up and squeeged out. I had to do this multiple times to get them completely out

After all of that, I was done.

Did I do some thing wrong? I normally would tuck the film but I couldn't on this one without removing the door panels.

If you guys could, please list a step by step on how you guys would have tinted it.

Any help is greatly appreciated since I have to do it again, tomorrow.

OK cool...what about the whole thing with tucking the tint and not tucking it...Is tucking a must?

I think the only way I can get the film under the strip is taking the door panels off. :klingon

Listen carefully, I have been tinting for over 22-years. And if you want to get somewhere in tinting now start with someone that already know how.

If that's not possible, read this site from top to bottom. There's so much good information here for pros and others :klingon

Slick -Tintdude- Rick does a proper job with this site.

Of course the forum, well that's another story :klingon

And you must be willing to burn some money. You also must be willing to redo a car more than once as a beginner.

What beats me is that most people believe if you desire to become a doctor, lawyer, accountant ect you have to go school, study spend year to get a degree and it all fine to practice.

But for some crazy :beer reason many people think you become a professional-Tinter/Window film applicator, after you screw-up 10 cars. :beer

Now why is that the case????????? :nuts
