What is overcoat???

Recommended Posts

Did a job today... used a MMM film. I opened the box and on the instruction sheet, it says to wash off overcoat.

What are they talking about?? I know it's probably a stupid question, but I've never heard of that before...

The liner? I guess.. the reason why I didn't think that was it is because on the sheet, they have a picture that shows someone washing off the overcoat. It says "Overcoat is dissolved when water is running off film".

We pulled off a liner... so it had one.

As for washing the surface... The guy I was with didn't do anything different then any other film I've used. Clean glass... wet.. apply film.. squeegee, bump.

I dunno... it looked no different when we were done.

I don't use MMM... but when I work with this other company that's what they use. So I've only used it a handfull of times and I don't really know much about it.

As long as you use a decent amount of water on the glass when you squeege the detach coating will come off.

I've never had to do anything different.

Of course, I use A LOT of water because I'm a n00b.

Yep, it's the DPS adheasive. Some wash it off by pulling the liner and spraying the film as well as the glass, and some just spray the glass real well.

Ah, ok. I think I get it now.. and we did spray the film as well as the glass before putting it on, so I guess it was wet enough .

The instruction sheet just made it seem like it was on the non-adheasive side, but I guess I was looking at it wrong.
