Tips for cutting down on contamination in framed rollups?

Here's my current prep/application steps:

Spray bottle the hell out of the channel all the way around the window with glass down.

Run a blue shop towel through the channel with an old hard card.

Spray bottle the hell out of the channel again.

When applying the film I spread it from the center of the window out into the channels.

Even with this I still get contamination at the edges (usually not at the top). Any tips?

Fist if there is felt. Duct tape it up or burn the s**t out of it...(which ever you like more). Second if it is felt I try and not soak the hell out of it. This can cause later problems if you have to redo it...LOL duct tape will only stick for so long (the felt acts as a wick) etc...Next if you still have problems I would remove the door panel and the bottom window gasket..with the gasket out this will allow you to drop the film all the way down in there with out touching side of the channel..lol if thoes doens help I will take step by steps lol...okay sorry ya all this is my only post for the week...The cable buy shut me down :( until next week/month/year...MUAHAH

still waiting on my helper monkey to arive in the mail!

beeline is right, just tape it off, it takes only a few more seconds. also before I apply the film, I'll run a paper towel along top, front, and rear edges...I was having your same problem, after doing this I have had much much cleaner installs

Use masking tape on felt.

On the rubber seals I don't soak them either. I wet the glass, scrape it with a blade, roll the glass down, wipe seals out (down motion) with a clean towel, roll up glass, wipe glass with clean towel, wet glass, squeegee glass from side to side, wet glass, install film.

The reason I dont soak the seals is because it tends to run into the film dragging dirt with it.

not much pressure in a spray bottle to "soak the crap" out of something...with my cornelius tanks pressure I blast down the top then sides, run my blue towel in the channels and then soak the window washing everything to the bottom gasket as I lift it so "trash" goes in the door and out my tint. I've never taped and have very little contamination problems, fyi the tape doesnt stick to wet felt so if your going to tape your have to decide ahead before you go cleaning

tape the felt before you wet it right ??

Tape the felt right after you pull the vehicle into the shop (the drier the better)..... I just use plain ole masking tape... contamination is almost nil !!!! :DD:eyebrows

masking tape is my choice as well. If I am tinting around felt, I tape it before anything else at all. 2" covers all and if it's too much, slice it in half and use the other half on the other side. no waste :eyebrows I also get the bottom edges if there's a chance of contamination.

I also tape the felt and the pressure of a cornelius tank almost no contam

Try the tape and see what it looks like after you pull it off and you will wonder why you don't have more contam than you already do :eyebrows
