how many cars a week do you average?

Right now for film NONE. I go for my Llumar training first week of October. I have 7 cars lined up for tint tho...

I have my invoices made, my shop ready, my table will be made next week. My business cards, my referal 10% off cards, my tools. I have my password for the Llumar tech site and have just been reading like crazy... I wasn't planning on buying it right away just looking for info about it before I go to my training and they tell me about it. I would rather know from non bias users first.

Here's my plan and my background.. for any one interested in reading it or throwing in your suggestions... Right now I am a full time engineer with little or no work. The whole auto industry has gone down. I've been detailing vehicles on the side for over 10 years. I average 4 cars a week. I do not advertise. When I do a car it takes me 7-9 hours. I'm too picky... Most of my customers are long time customers. I've always had people asking me about tint but never really considered it. UNTIL NOW.... as my work is slow and there's no way I can make a good profit detailing cars the way I do it. I'm not even going to try to attempt it for a living.. I am big into lowrider hydraulics. I wrote a book and its doing good but as far as doing installs, frankly, there's no money it that either as people do not understand how much work it is to do an install and don't want to pay...

MY PLAN

RIGHT NOW I HAVE A 25x30 heated and insulated CLEAN shop with water and sewer on my property next to my house. The building is only 5 years old and has great lighting.

I plan to start in window film for automotive to get in the business via word of mouth. As I see the business increasing I will take a course on PPF. Then hang promotional posters in my shop about PPF and try to get that going along with tint and detailing. The detailing I will still do and if I get too busy my good friend around the corner details the same as me and I will work something out for him to do the detailing.

If I can get away from engineering and make good profit doing the above full time, I will then take a course on FLAT GLASS. And hang promotional posters in my place about flat glass. And if needed hire someone to do auto film while I'm doing flat.

If this turns profitable for me. I will purchase or lease a rather large place and make a Llumar center. DETAILING, AUTOFILM, PPF, vinyl graphics (although I hate vinyl graphics) and flat glass.

This is my 5 year plan. Right now the closest tint shop doesn't even advertise auto tint but its a speedy glass shop. The next closest is 20 minutes away from me as per researching the internet, talking to people and the yellow pages. who know's, there may be one around that doesn't advertise...

So for all this, do you think the Llumar Presicion cut sytem would be good?

I would learn to do it freehand if you're not slapping a bunch of dealer cars. There is better fit IMO on hand cut patterns, not to mention, what if something comes around that isn't in the computer, you've had little practice doing it by hand so you're up $|-|17 creek. Ohh yeah, and the more profit part.

I just dont get why you arent lookin for another engineering gig but what do I know. :thumb

Looked and looked. Its not just the company I work for... Its pretty much every company. My biggest customer is GM and John Deere. Both are down Huge. We've had three HUGE customers close. Dura automotive Canada is barley hanging on and the US companies of Dura clamed chapter 11 last Thursday. GM - well--- nuff said... and John Deere is using tooling for as long as they can now and keeping the same product line longer to save money.. Kinda like ford with the same mustand for 10 years.. lol... Cornelius pools went bankcrupt 2 years ago. I designed 2 pools for them. They re-opened this year and hopefully will come back strong... The only thing real strong right now is the casinos....

There are jobs available but they are short term contracts and none are close to home.. we're talking 3 provinces over... Every tool shop I've contacted is laying off. Every factory is laying off..

BASICALLY - ITS SUCKS.....

Thanks for the great advise on practicing my own patterns. I guess it makes me better in the long run right??? I'm thinking the PRECISION CUT will be needed for the PPF tho... I have some time for that.. Prolly a year before I start that,,,

Thanx
