What are the benefits of one of these K&N units vs the stock one ?

less than none if it's sucking hot engine bay air.

if it gets cold(er) outside air, the idea is that it reduces the inherent restrictions in a stock air box, allowing the motor to get more air. Thereby being able to make more power.

The other side of the coin is that without an enlarged throttle body, less restrictive headers, catalytic converters, silencers, mufflers, tubing.. etc etc. Then you start looking at larger injectors, fuel pump, engine management. Sucking more air does little good. It all has to balance out or it doesn't truly work as advertised.

It's a vicious cycle. I've turned more than few $18,000 cars off the lot into useless $60,000 cars and lowered the value on a few super cars by modifying them too.
