An odd question

I know that putting a dark film on lami is a no no. But why can we put 5% on a laminated Mercedes B/W and not have a problem....... but the second we put it on a flat piece of lami.....CRACK!!!????

Just wondering........

laminate glass is very tricky. All windshields are laminate glass and are very strong when they are MOUNTED on the vehicle. Once you remove the glass and have it off the car, it is kind of fragile.

I once had to tint a front windshield out of a car for somebody that had a legitimate medical reason and he wanted the UV Clear to block out the UV only. I installed it as well as a darker sun strip and while I was squeegeeing, I heard a little crack. Sure enough, the windshield split from top to bottom and I had to replace the windshield.

From that day on, I never tint any laminated glass unless it is securely mounted in place.
