plotter static killed a button

Recommended Posts

running global qdp through my graphtec fc7000 series plotter we get loads of static from time to time even with the copper static brushes installed on the back. After done cutting we like to use the cross cut feature to cut the film from the roll. Well when you touch the menu button to do so it would shock you . Well the static got so bad that just a couple days ago I went to hit menu after cutting a couple patterns and it shocked the Sh*t out of me & what do ya know this is the second time it killed my menu button using the same film !!! I've already sent this thing to graphtec usa in Cali, looks like its going back for round two. Plotter is only 2 years old ! Anyone else ever have problems? If so, anyway to help this situation?

what do you mean by grounded? I tried something with it a while back with speaker wire ran from plotter to an outlet screw under the plate if thats what you mean but it didn't seem to do anything at all for the static. The brushes helped alot with pulling the film through but after it cuts and builds up static then you touch the plotter you get shocked, but not anymore I guess it already did its damage. Im so mad cause now I have to send it off for 3 weeks and get alittle skeet 24" piece a junk !

I'd make sure the brushes, stand, and plotter base are all grounded. You might have to go further than just a wire to the screw. Perhaps get an separate outlet plug (like the type to repair extension cords) and attach everything to the ground wire and plug it in.

Couldn't you just get in the habit of touching another part of it to discharge

the energy. Like if you get in your car while gassing up in the winter? :thumb

Just guessing I don't know diddly about plotters!

Well, it hasn't electrocuted me!!! LOL.

Finally with the offset of .012 it weeds just fine.

Now I just have to find a use for it. PPF is a bit slow, I'm not wanting doing a lot of vinyl work...

Makes a great coat rack. =) Yet, I'm happy I bought it.
