Stupid people rant

I do a lot of gooseneck hitches, and brake box installs. Well this guy comes in last week wanting a B&W turnover ball and brake box put into his truck. He got the hitch and box as part of buying his truck, and wanted me to install them. Normally I dont install stuff unless they bought it from me, but I was slow and needed the spot filled in the schedule. So I do the install, test all the wiring, and sent his packing. Later that night I got a call (I leave my cell number on the machine so I can schedule after hours) from the guys wife saying that I had scratched the hell out of his truck, and when they hooked the truck up to the trailer something popped and now the truck wont start. Now this lady is being rude as hell, and I am trying my best to keep my composure. I informed her that the worst that could have happened was a fuse blew (unless the trailer was wired wrong). She told me that they were loading the truck up on a rollback (why?) and I would be recieving a bill for the tow and whatever the truck needed to run again. A couple of days roll by and they call again saying that they are taking me to small claims court (they havent figured out why the truck wont start yet) and I better get ready to pay for the damage. I finally lose my cool and tell them to "Do what you have to do, but I didnt scratch that truck, and it left here running with all the wiring tested." Well I get a call this morning from a very meek sounding lady apologizing for her behavior and that the truck was fixed. I asked her why it wouldnt start, and she tells me THE BATTERY WAS DEAD. Apparently the battery was weak to begin with, and they had the doors open with the radio blasting while they drank beer and hooked up the trailer to test the lights. Between the dome light, the radio, and testing the trailer lights they drained the battery. Stupid people thought they were going to get a new paint job and some cash by taking me to court. God bless America.

BE HAPPY!!!! You dodged a bullet there. It could have been ugly. I had to re-paint a 280Z that I KNOW damn good and well I didn't scratch! I screw something up, I fix it, no prob. But to all the assholes out there looking for a free paint job...... :dunno:dunno

I'm glad it went well. At least she apologised. Thats more than alot of folks will do these days!!!

I almost lost a $2,000 job due to the husband talking trash about me. This elderly gentleman comes in and orders a butt load of accessories for his 08 Silverado. After talking to the original buttheads father, he has second thoughts, due to this being a brand new truck. The older guy at least had the decency to come out and talk with me about the earlier situation, and I told him there are two sides to every story. I also pointed him in the direction of two dealers I do work for, where I routinely work on $30,000 truck without a problem. In the long run, he decides to continue with his appointment, but is there anything I can do to prevent the original guy from spreading slander? I am a fairly new business, and any negative exposure could kill me at this point. In a town this small, people only seem to remember the negative, not the positive. I just wonder if there is anything I can do to silence this butthole. Any suggestions? (Legal ones....lol)

If he's done that to you, he's probably done it to everybody.

Dont worry about it, most smart people learn to tune those kinds of negative nancy's out.

Just do the best you can do and keep pluggin :thumb

My x-boss still trash talks me, and I haven't worked for him in 5 years now.... I thought about talking to an attorney about it, but honestly, the amount of time and effort that would be needed to try and stop it, it's just not worth the time or headache. My work & work ethic speaks for itself, so it is what it is.
