Lighting BG to cut along Matrix

Recommended Posts

What kind of lights are u guys using to light up back glass to cut along matrix? A 07 Dodge caliber took 1 hr (15 min if I had a dam light). I do have one of those single bulb lights w/ grill around bulb. I can bear to go on another job without having the proper lights.

I use a 500watt halogen lamp. 10 bucks at lowes.

:thumb..this is all I ever use and have never burned interior from it because it's not on long enough to burn interior (takes under 1 minute always to but a back glass with this light)

I'm not sure what your shop is like but I always kill my shop lights when doing this..makes life a lot easier..pitch black in the shop other than the light inside the car ..cutting 5% becomes no problem at all :krazy

The other thing you can do is lay down a white bed sheet on the rear interior which greatly helps illuminate the inside ..I also prop my lamp up on a stool inside the car which gets the light elevated and greatly helps ..hope one of these tricks help you :thumb

I have 2 of those, the light emitted from halogen doesn't seem as bright as other bulbs and besides that, those get way too hot. I want a cooler light so I don't risk burning interior.
Dam. I was gonna say set the interior of the car on fire, but I guess you're picky. :thumb

This is my number one argument for a plotter. :thumb If you can't swing that, however, try a nice flourescent tube light thingy(technicaly speaking). Something like this...

I have tried the white paper towels, but the white sheet would help more. I only do Mobile tinting, so I can't turn lights off. Say that I tint a 4dr car and they want 5% on back half, should I just apply 10% or 20% to the back glass. I have thought of this cause of the fact that light enters through windsheild making the back darker. If I put 20% on rear I bet they won't notice.

oh they will definitely notice. I've always been fine with a flourescent drop light or a single bulb grill style. you just but it on the back dash and move around acordingly if you are moble and the sun is causing too much reflection on the film then I would suggest a pop tent or just shield the immediate area you are cutting with your hand.
