Back window just explodes

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

I was working last saturday on 1996 nissan altima. First I have to remove the tint then tint it again.

I just the steam to remove the tint in all the doors easily. But as the film was really a poor one It was just peeling when I was using the steamer to remove the tint. I try to bag it same result.

I decide to use the heat gun from the outside and a blade in the inside . This went well and I remove all the tint.

may be one hour later I came to clean the back window again using a steamer ( hot water) and finish it. after I left the car to cut the film just hear a blow sound. when I look back the glas was in pieces.

Have something like that has happened to you? I know about thermal stress, I was not aware that can happen after one hour or more.

Of course I have to call a mobile glass shop to replace the windshield and tint it.

How do you explain that?

One cougar back in 92 did that to me. It had a stress crack in the corner was what I was later told that caused it.

I didn't check trhe glass before it was all with bubbles. May be the cause

Nothing you can do now, but get it replaced and tint it. Hope your customer understands :thumb

In the early 80s I worked at a Ford Dealership body shop...Had 10-15 cougars that we had to replace the backglasses because the defroster were some how defective and were causing the glass to explode! :thumb

:thumb maybe the defroster shorted out? Don't know really! :thumb

because of the fact that the film was peeling I remember that I have turn on on the defroster the help heat the glue. but that stop 1 hour before the explosion

Yes, it got warrantied. The dealership said they had had several problems with them.

They had told me then that the windows were being put in so tight that there were stress cracks in the top. If you will look closeley at some of the new fords today you will see where there chipped and already stressing on the front windshield corners :thumb
