sh***y day...

Recommended Posts

Wife called me at work today at 10 saying the carbon monoxide detector was going off.

I came home and looked over the HVAC to see if anything obvious was wrong. I couldnt see anything that jumped out.

We called a technician and he came over and did some test. Turns out that we have a crack in the heat exchanger......and that was letting carbon monoxide into the house. It was a serious problem, thank god we had a detector.

Our HVAC system is 8 years old and of course the parts cost are crazy as hell.....Looks like I just got hit in the pocket for 6500 bucks for a WHOLE NEW system from CARRIER.

I am going to have to sell my motorcycle to cover the cost it looks like. My wife has the money in her savings thank god for the time being to get this fvcking thing fixed.

It really sucks sometimes being a homeowner :rollin This is the first major thing that has went wrong in the 8 years we have lived here.

OHH what a fvcking day :rollin

Dayyyuuum 6500 bones I know they aren't cheap but unless they quoted a high efficiency system INSTALLED I would check around Mike. If you want too you can get an decent Idea about equipment cost at places like this. I used sites like this http://www.acdirect.com/ to find out what kind of markup I was getting tagged with when I built my house.

Good move on buying that C02 detector though. Saved your life. :rollin

:angel Can't put a price on keeping the family safe

On another note..$6500 seems a bit expensive unless you live in a mansion :thumb I know a few people that recently replaced theirs and it was more like $4000 I would think it would be the same or less in the U.S.

Either way..sorry about the kick in the pocket book :rollin

Yes VC I think that Detector may have saved our lives :rollin I thought it was full of crap at first because we had one just like giving off false signals a few years back.

The reading was only like 44 parts per million which is not going to kill you but its not good. Over time though I imagine it could have done some real harm.

You guys reading this :rollin make the 50 dollar investment and get a carbon monoxide detector for your home. Its well worth it.

The one we were priced is a Carrier 15 ser. What we have now is a York 10 ser. "a cheep POS, that the builder put in"

They say that with every ser you can save 10% on energy. So we are looking at saving 50% on our energy cost over what we had with this new more efficient system.

I plan on being in this house for a long time, so I guess its a good investment.

It just blows donkey DVICK to have to spend loads of money out of the blue.

I guess it happened at a good time of the year its not hot so we wont have to suffer with that, we have some portable heaters we can get by with until this new shvit gets installed.
