Increasing Business

Recommended Posts

I must say that my business is getting busier and busier each month. I give credit to using Google Adwords, Advertising on Craigslist, Having my website ranked in the top 5 in Google and Yahoo when people type in specific key words when searching, and past canvasing of neighborhoods and commercial plazas with door hangers/Business cards. I still have not went all out and placed a yellow page ad or did any TV/radio advertising, and I don't think I am going to. It seems people are using the internet these days instead of the ole yellow pages. I recently started going to newer retail plazas and spoke with managers and/or owners. In fact, I drove past a new restaraunt that was just about completed, turned around and walked in. I spoke with the manager and he said the owner and him were just discussing window treatment options and directed me to the back of the dining area where the owner was sitting. We spoke for a brief period, gave him some literature and my card. He told me he would give me a call in the next few days to have me come back when he had more time to discuss the details and get an estimate. I was always hesitant to do this type of cold calling because I don't want to be looked as some pushy salesman. My attitude now is just go for it and put everything you have into your business and you will see positive results. A couple of years ago, I never imagined having 5 completed jobs in the month of January (All Commercial), That doesnt even count the 5 other estimates that either didnt follow through or are awaiting corporate approval. To all the guys waiting for the work to come to you, get out there and put some time and effort to do what ever you have to do to drum up business. This is coming from a small one guy operation who works as a nurse 3 days a week. I also recently got two of my long time buddies, one in PA (In the contracting Business) and one here locally (In sales) to do some sales cold calling for me and will pay them on commision on each job they get me. I ordered them both business cards, sales literature and insructed them on FG window films. I am excited to see what spring and summer will have in store for my business...Sorry for the long rant...but I wanted to encourage any newcomers or lontimers who were feeling the winter blues or are thinking about getting out of the business due to slow sales. :thumb

Check this book out, it has helped me be motivated in my business:

Cold calls aren't an easy thing to motivate yourself to do.

Sometimes I can go in and strike up a conversation and sell anyone on anything...

Other times I either can't muster up the motivation or I end up stumbling over my words.... :thumb

We've been doing some radio ads lately, so far it's been hit and miss, but, I think it will help get the word out.

Every time I do one thing for a customer, they end up seeing my service list and say, "I wish I knew you did that too, so-n-so just screwed that up for me"....

One other thing that keeps me tinting is, these guys that are tinting below the legal limit, being a state inspection station, we can't give them a sticker if it's too dark. So 9 outta 10 times, I get a strip and retint out of the deal.... :thumb
