Digital Image files

Recommended Posts

What program do you all use to change a jpeg or any other low definition image into an image that can be scaled for large digital printing. Also what image type is best to work with when using it to enlarge to print it out on vinyl? Thanks

:twocents You can't just turn a jpeg image into a high resolution image that can be scaled for digital printing. JPEG, GIF, TIF, etc.......are pixel based images and blowing them up ruins them (unless they are high resolution files). But even then you are limited to the size of the image as taken by the camera. You need vector based images (based on lines and mathmatical equations) to be unlimited in how big you can blow them up. Adobe Illustrator for instance, is a vector based drawing program. It does have a feature called "auto trace" that can turn pixel based images into vector but for complex photos you can pretty much forget about it spitting something out that's usable. If your thinking of a specific image for a job you better have a high resolution image or your screwed! Welcome to the not so simple world of printed graphics!
