if you cut windows out to exact then you are gonna have some gaps. Also, with 53 inch windows you still have 7 inches of waste from a 60 inch roll so whats it matter. I can understand on the length but I cut out of the box with a metal guide on the box edge and cut it out an inch over sometimes 1/2.

I can cut out of the box on the floor with little waste as well. I'd rather not crawl around on my knees all day if I don't have to. :beer

I can adjust the height on my FH base, pull the film out in to the length I want in one pull and roll it up without bending over. Taller windows may require me to stand on a step ladder to cut and roll the film. For me it's just as quick as cutting on the floor but much more comfortable.

If the window condition is right, I can cut the lenght exact without a gap otherwise I'll cut the film 1/4" to 1/2" long and trim 1 side and the bottom unless the frame is out of square then I'll trim the top also.

we cut 8 mil out of the box to fit all day long. I guess you cant replace exp. :beer I think the difference is most of you guys work alone. I have a helper he moves everything, cleans the glass, sets me up and goes back and cleans. all I do is make the money putting the tint on. it is a waste of time for me to do anything else. we average about 14 double hung windows in an hour. :gasp

Your helper must be superman if he can keep up with you when all you do is hang the film. :eyebrows

Takes me about 5 minutes to install a piece of 8 mil on a comercial window 70" x 58".

I do work alone. I tried helpers in the past, they just get in my way and annoy me. :lol2

I have tested this for myself. I do dealer work and was doing about 200 of the same cars per month. So I tried out the plotter. It took more time, way more time, for the plotter to cut the film. And when you go through a whole roll of film cutting doors, the blade gets dull and sometimes it doesnt score it well enough so when you peel it its not clean. Aggrivating...Granted this was a few years back, things may be better now. I cut at least two cars per car. In other words I cut 4 piecxes on one door. And when I was doing that many cars I would cut like 3 or 4 cars per car. Anyway here was my conclusion...I could cut the film way way faster manually. The plotter really wasted my day. Also sometimes it wasn't accurate. However, the nice thing about the plotter was you could set it to cut within millimeters of eachother and save on scraps. I figuerd I got about 4 extra doors out of a roll using the plotter. In the end that was definitely not enough to make me keep it. I would think maybe in flat glass applications it could be very usfeful. But as for an experienced tinter, I think manual is best. Hope this helps...
