What percentage of the total job are shop owners paying to their top installers? 10%? 20%? 30%? I mean if you really look at the numbers an installer getting paid 35% of the total job is taking home about 50% of the profits by the time the shop owner pays for the film and pays the bills.

Thats completely normal. I think if the owner is providing all tools/supplies, 35-40 is fair. If the owner is just providing film, then 45%, and if the employee provides everything(I.e subbing through another shop) then 60-70% is normal.

Normal? I think chad87 gets it. If you were paying your installer 40% of the total sale, then what is the point in being in business for yourself. After everything has been paid, you'd be making the same if not less than the installer. No employees yet huh scotty? :lol

I used to pay my guys 30% , and I have been paid that way when I worked for people before. Now I won't ever do % again. It works out much better for both parties to pay flat rate per car. Then owner can charge what ever he wants, and installers don't get pissed when discounts are given. I am a firm believer in employees should get paid for the work they do not take a hit because the owner wants to give a deal. It's not any less work for them and if they are going to take risks on how the biz is preforming then why not open their own shop. I think this may be one reason why so many installer start their own places so often.

believe it or not, I spend very little on racing. I have no choice, I don't make much to begin with. I don't get to race often either.

Keeping it fun, 1pee. That's good. My inlaws got neck deep in badder faster more cubic dollars.

First karting but then mini sprints w/ multiple cars.

Now everything is sold and back to fishin or golf on weekends!

no, no employees.

But if I hire a employee, I would be perfectly fine with paying something 40% total. If I'm busy enough to need an employee, then yeah their going to make more than me on that particular car, but the money coming to me is money I otherwise wouldn't have gotten. Like a bonus. I wouldn't hire someone to strictly do all my tinting for me, and sit back and take a cut.

:lol2 Ever looked up the term socialism?

Dude, dont be a fool. You are paying all the expenses and taking all the risk to pay someone the same amount you make, or maybe actually paying them more from profit then what you make. There is nothing wrong with paying an employee well, but it also depends on how you define success.
