What percentage of the total job are shop owners paying to their top installers? 10%? 20%? 30%? I mean if you really look at the numbers an installer getting paid 35% of the total job is taking home about 50% of the profits by the time the shop owner pays for the film and pays the bills.

Thats completely normal. I think if the owner is providing all tools/supplies, 35-40 is fair. If the owner is just providing film, then 45%, and if the employee provides everything(I.e subbing through another shop) then 60-70% is normal.

Normal? I think chad87 gets it. If you were paying your installer 40% of the total sale, then what is the point in being in business for yourself. After everything has been paid, you'd be making the same if not less than the installer. No employees yet huh scotty? :embar

no, no employees.

But if I hire a employee, I would be perfectly fine with paying something 40% total. If I'm busy enough to need an employee, then yeah their going to make more than me on that particular car, but the money coming to me is money I otherwise wouldn't have gotten. Like a bonus. I wouldn't hire someone to strictly do all my tinting for me, and sit back and take a cut.

:lol2 Ever looked up the term socialism?

Dude, dont be a fool. You are paying all the expenses and taking all the risk to pay someone the same amount you make, or maybe actually paying them more from profit then what you make. There is nothing wrong with paying an employee well, but it also depends on how you define success.

success in business would be having other people make me money, with me not doing anything. Paying someone else to tint the car, and taking a cut of it is called running a good business.

thats how big business works. Hardly every does the CEO/owner of a large company actually participate in the majority of the work that happens.

I won't ever be able to turn my company into a franchise/multi-location if I plan on doing all the work myself. I need to get other people to do that

That's what I was posting and decided not to. I thought it was architecture though.
