sharing rent is always a good idea..also most dealerships(auto) have a spare shed or bay you could negotiate....plus you can work out a contract with them for their work...glass shops are also handy for bouncing work... great way to start untill you've got the cash to run your own

hi there units in the uk can cost a lot so if you can share then great, but you need to take into account what type of work the person your sharing with is doing as it can affect the overall quality of ur work.

for example me and my mentor used to do some mobile jobs at a audio place and some of the contamination issue we came accross was crazy, as they would cut mdf board in the same workshop hours before we had to tint a car in there and the dust flyin about everywhere did not leave u with the best finish what you would normally get in ur own fitted out workshop.

when my mates opened up a few years ago his was not making much profit at the start as he had to build a name and customer base for himself, so one of the things he did was share his unit with a car valeter and to lower the risk of dust issues etc he had some plastic/vinyl curtains made and boxed his tint bay off with it. which worked out good for him, as it halfed the cost of renting the unit and also got him work as when people would go to the valeter for a mini valet or just a wash they would ask about having there car tinted.

if you do rent a unit the one thing i would enquire about is the business rates as they vary from building to building and can hurt ur profit if u dont watch it

yea i agree, iv managed to get one for 40 pounds a week sharing, BUT its with a custom car shop, i.e body kits ect but it is having a booth fitted for spraying ect so im going to tint in there as thats the cleanest place i know of to be honest,

thank you soo much for your reply though great help :lol

Hi Tint Monkey,

Try used car dealers. A lot of these guys took on large premises when the going was good. I needed a move for 2 reasons, one that it was just too quiet in my rural location and two, I really wanted to get my overheads down, I emailed and visited all dealers in my target area and was surprised at the positive reaction from some of them. If they've got space they're more than happy to look at a reciprocal business that will bring punters in. The guy I've moved in with couldn't do enough for me, banners and advertising anywhere on the site front etc, he just wants to get people into the showroom!
