Film Placement

this is another subject i wanna talk about.

i've been reading about how important it is to get it as close to where you want it as you can the first shot. so any tips for this? or just practice makes perfect?

also tell me this. when i peel and then place the film on the window, it seems to just lock instantly. it takes quite a bit of pressure to get it to slide. then once i'll get it to move a little and it locks again.

it would seem the obviouse answer would be more slip, yes? but it seems i'm putting more in than i ever have and it still does the same. could/does the hotter weather affect this?

and also, will this problem cause marks to appear on the film? it looks like glue smudges after i install one of these pesky windows, figured they were coming from forcing the film to slide, could this be?

i'm using JWF Marathon with J&J.

I used to have a real problem with this when I first started auto and switched from J&J to joy and it has improved but now I really have to heat and bump top edges before I can shave or roll up and work the bottoms. I do miss how J&J always seemed to tack up nice and quick. But maybe just more slip is the solution.

Ok so heat and humidy does affect it. Then that's prob what's wrong

So what about these "smudges". Could they be from having to force the film to slide? Or is this not so?

It's called adhesive displacement! It won't come out and unless it's very small than normally you should replace the film! I get this more on remove and replace jobs because with some removal jobs the glass tends to still be sticky even after you have cleaned the b-jesus out of it! Add more slip is the solution!
