Insurance and tint

Hi all,

I recently had some storm debris fall on my brand new car, and now a rear window has to be replaced. The windows were tinted with Huper Optik in another state where I bought the vehicle. Unfortunately there are no Huper dealers in my area to replace the film on that one window. Not a big deal to me, as I will just go with another ceramic film. The other unfortunate thing is that I will have to get all the windows redone so they match. I don't want 2 different kinds of films on my car. I got a couple of estimates written up, and it will be around $400+ for remove and replace on all the windows. I have a feeling that my insurance company will not pay for this since it is a high-end film, but I don't want to be stuck with the bill! As I read the law, they have to make my car "whole" again, meaning that tint needs to look right. Has anyone else had experience with this?

I wouldn't count on it....they'll probably only pay for the back window. They could give two hoots whether it matches or not. :facepalm

:imok I agree with Booms, you will only get rear window tinted but

I'd love to hear how it comes out! Good luck

Has the insurance agreed to cover the tint as part of your policy?

They haven't said one way or another. It has taken me two weeks to even get an appointment with an adjuster, and the people on the phone said it is something the adjuster will have to deal with. A remove and replace with ceramic will be around $450. My deductible is $500. I will be looking at almost a grand to get my car back to normal which really sucks.

If I were to leave the front roll ups in 30 Huper, can you guys think of anything that would match if I only got the two small rear windows done and the back glass? If it is the same "color" as the Huper 30 and I went darker (20%) maybe you won't be able to tell the difference. I am not really concerned about whether it is ceramic or not at this point.

Is it the rear window, or one of the rear doors that needs replaced? :dunno

Its a 2-door, so I guess it would be called the quarter panel glass.

The Huper has such a distinct color to it, I am worried that I can't match it.

Your gonna strip and retint the entire car for a quarter window? :bingo

How about just redo both quarters.....You'll never be able to tell the difference in the shades between the sides and the rear glass. :thumb
