Really!!!!!!!!!!!!&#33

Recommended Posts

So I have been getting these weird blood clot, bruising things on my legs (four total). I went to the dr on Monday and he referred me to an oncologist. WTF!!!

I go for my CT Scan Monday morning. Blood work on Wednesday.

No insurance :imok It was just eating us up! We could no afford it anymore! I figured I would get through school and get a job with insurance. I figured we would just have to stay healthy for 2 years :D that would be a big NO!

I am so pissed!

On a positive note, we have been busier this summer than we have in years :facepalm

Simple answer is...don't pay the bill. Healthcare bills have gone up for one reason and one reason only...anyone can get care without insurance (which is fine) but many arent paying the bill.

My advice is to let the bill go into collections, and pay it for pennies on the dollar. I have insurance but my wife doesn't. When she had surgery for her miscarriage we paid $800 after it went to collection. It saved us about $3k. My opinion is, if you can't show you are here legally, you get turned away. Sounds harsh, but that's the reason why it has gotten the way it is.

DONT let it go to collections. Most hospitals will let you pay payments. As long as thier getting money they wont bother u wether its 100 a month or a dollar. When it goes to collections it really hurts your credit and if u let it go far enough they will figure out where your employed and really put a hurting on you. Ask me how i know :thumb. I hope everything turns out ok for ya

If it were me, I'd let it go to collections... but that's just cause I've dealt with that before.... so I know what to do.

But... whatever you decide... after the fact you CAN negotiate with the hospital for the bill... my mom works in the health field and she's helped me with that in the past. Even with insurance... a bill might be $2500 for something.. they send it to the insurance company... who in turns says, well, we'll pay $1700 for that procedure. And that's that. The rest is written off.... So when you get a bill... you can find out what the insurance companies would pay... and start with that number.

Medical costs are crazy... and it's nuts for these places to even think people w/o insurance can pay... esp. in these times we're living in. It'd be so easy to get a few tests down and owe $10,000. @@

In any event - I hope everything goes well for ya!

Well, all of the testing has to be paid for up front as well as the doctor visit at time of service. I have negotiated and shopped for the CT and the blood work. I have cut the cost by about 1/3.

CT normally $1200, I offered to pay in cash and got it down to $750. Blood work normally $630, I got it down to $400!

As for treatment after all the work is complete... who knows!
