Groupon?

Recommended Posts

It kills me that such terrible images are used in Groupon ad campaigns. I really don't get what is so hard about taking a picture of a car where the ENTIRE car is in the frame.

Also the no company logo, number etc... what a wasted opportunity that email went out to 10's of thousands of people who see just a dark window. Nothing mentioning residential or any other services. What a waste of very expensive advertising space.

every groupon has fine print though, you just have to read.

nowhere does it say "get your car tinted for $50", it says you get $100 worth of tint for $50, which is how groupon works with this type of groupon.

There are two types of groupons, ones like this, where you get a discount on a certain value ($25 food for $10, $100 tint for $50, etc) OR where you get a set item for a price (Skydiving for $150, 6 games of bowling for $5, etc).

I don't think you can call it a scam when most people buying groupons have bought them before and know to read the fine print. Its the same way with anything. I just fought and won a chargeback on ebay where I sold a broken/unworking macbook, listed in the "not working/for parts only" condition and some asshat bought it thinking it would be an easy fix, then when it turned out not to be tried to do a chargeback claiming it was not as described. Paypal basically said "you're fault, you didn't read the ad, sorry".

There was an article a few weeks ago that said 60% of groupon customers have bought 5 or more groupons in the past, so most people know what to expect.

You can dislike them all you want, but I'd say its a stretch to call them a scam. Living Social and Groupon don't get to be as big as they are by scamming people.

My biggest beef with Groupon is some of the folks who buy them. They are terrible tippers and servers really suffer on that part. It would be wise for them to add a gratuity to protect the servers so they are actually tipped on "real" value of the meal.

:dunno

I know around here a lot of the pizza places don't let you use them for delivery anymore because people didn't tip. Same with a few of the restaurant chains that run them, when you tell the server you have a groupon they automatically get a sad look on their face like they know you're not going to tip. Then when you still do they are more than happy.
