Raised prices...best decision I've made!

Recommended Posts

When i first joined this forum, I read a post of a guy that had been tinting awhile, saying that raising prices was the best decision he ever made. That statement couldn't be more true. When i first started, i did cheap prices thinking it would get me more work...WRONG!! You get cheap azzes that want to save money and just b/c you do a "cheap" tint job, don't expect that they won't expect a quality job. See, when people go with you b/c you are the cheapest, they are expecting the SAME tint job on the highest quote they got. They think they're basically getting "hooked up" by not having to pay top dollar.

I once voiced how i couldn't sell anything but cheap tint jobs w/ dye film and LimoTintLarry told me that you have to sell yourself by explaining WHY you are better than your competition, so true. Pierce posted a thread months back saying that cheap tint jobs will put you out of business and I swear it almost happened to me.

So to all you newbs that are pricing low, thinking it will get you more work, think again. After 3 years of tinting I finally got people coming back and lost ALL three custy because i raised my prices my $10!!! Also, I don't know how many times I got someone asking,"Why are your tint jobs so cheap".

I would like to thank "Limo tint Larry", "Pierce" and all you other guys. Because of this forum I raised my prices, which is more money for me and I don't feel like im disrepecting my competition and don't have to go $5 cheaper just to get the job.

I too have raised prices only to find that no one complains. In fact, most of my clients expect to pay more.

I now work less and make more. I find that people take you more seriously if you charge more. It also helps to take credit cards. I started taking them for the first time at the beginning of the month and wonder why I haven't done it before now. Love it!

Charge as much as you can not as little as you can.

It easier for the custy to beat you down a little on price and you to still to be happy than you to start low and raise the price on the custy.

Wow! Great news!!! After the day I've had this thread has made it so I can end this day with a smile. Thank you for the kind words and congratulations on your success.

We often talk here about installations, applications and the technical side of the business. It seems far less frequent that the business side of things are discussed and its just as much an instrumental part of the success of your business.

Be the best, conduct yourself in a professional manner, have the cleanest most organized shop and crew, take the time to know your products and all of the features and benefits of window film. This is the key to your success and most importantly having a positive attitude and believing in yourself and your company.

Busier selling better tint, just saying.

Talking to people they associate low prices with shady shops, and most likely with good reason.

The//Man, after you gave me advice on how to upsell, noone even wants standard film, they immediatly want HP instead.

thanks again!

I'm starting to think I might bump my price's just a bit next spring. With the new costs of the storefront and all. Not that I'm hurting, but my comp has raised there price's even more then last year, which means they are now charging dam near double what I get to tint a set of front doors. I don't think they have alot of tint work from what I've heard, so they are jacking up their price's to make up for lack of job's. :cool

Judging by the math they can do half the cars and do just as well. :cool

Albeit I'm not in your market but being half the price to me seems like you might be pricing yourself exceptionally low. Now I'm not a baller or anything but I seriously do get kinda freaked by any product or service that is half the price of its competition. There is a reason I rarely shop at Harbor Freight.
