i think your all missing the point on the remapping, the cars wont fail just because they have been remapped, neither will the mot tester's test the ecu to see if it has been mapped, it will be part of the emissions test to check the emissions are in the correct band that the car is paying road tax for e.g.- if you buy a blue motion polo and are paying £35 a year road tax because of its emissions bracket, then it gets mapped which take it up into the next emissions bracket then your road tax is affected, its all about the rate of RFL you are paying against the emissions the car actually produces
