Pics of 995 "wet glaze" installation

Recommended Posts

Anyone have any good pics of installations done with 995? I'm talking with a glass company about doing a job which would need 995 installed with the film, and the glass co. thinks they want to do that themselves. I'm trying to explain that this is not the same as standard silicone caulking they would normally do - but pics would help.

if they've done caulking before, they'd probably be a lot more qualified than you to do it, assuming you've never done it before

Have done it before on small jobs only (didn't get any pictures to show). Have used a professional caulking company for larger jobs.

The glass co. is used to caulking - but maybe not with DC 995 which is trickier to work with than standard silicone caulks. Have explained to them that the 995 needs to extend at least 3/8" onto the film and 3/8" onto the frame - but figured a pic would make it clearer.

Suntint, I have a tech bulliten from SolarGard/Armorcoat that spells it out very nicely with images and explanations. I would be happy to supply that if you shoot me an email.

Here is a good one for ya for pics......ask Cuttingedge if he still has his pics from when he hired a schmuck to do his caulking for him.....it was a total disaster, guy claimed to know what he was doing (as the glass co. is claiming) and he made a nightmare out of it. Good to show them what can happen if you dont have experience with it.....also, what will the film manny cover for warranty if you do not install the 995 with it??....something else to look into!!!

This video may help. It is the application of Dow 995. There is no tooling. The specification requires a 45 degree angle across the top of the bead. The problem with tape and tool is you leave a concave surface.

This job required 1/2" bead. ( 1/4" on glass...1/4" on frame)
