I have read a few of the other topics on machines posted on here. I see people are running Pfaff 145, Consew 206 RB-4, and Consew 226. I, personally, run a Pfaff 1245 on the daily and have had little trouble with it. I just found a Necchi industrial machine on Craigslist with table for $400 and also a Consew 226 head for $150 obo in a seperate ad. I really like my Pfaff 1245 because it supposedly has the highest lifting foot available and I can get 2 pieces of 1/2 inch foam under it if need be. I also like that it is a top load bobbin. Im considering and Adler or Chandler machine too, if I can find one. My other option is to look into a longarm machine, at which point I have no idea of what would be a good machine.

Anyone have some advice?

This response probably a little late but I will give you may two cents worth! I have sewn on most of these machine over the years. I work with my father and he's been in business over 40 years. Most of these machines would be good but not the best. I have found that upholstery has change in this time. Alot of new upholstery uses heavier threads 92/138/207 nylon. You need a large bobbin to handle this thread and a high foot lift! We had used alot of machines but found the Juki or Kingmax walking foot to be the best. We purchased the Kingmax GC1510 which is the same as the Juki but has more features and is $400. cheaper. We had it for 4 years know and have no problem with the upholstery from leather, foam or reinforced vinyls. If you buy the right machine it will last you and your family forever. Kingmax website is kingmax.us.com and Juki website juki.com.
