2004 Grand Am, factory security)

Everything still works, just concerned it might shut everything down on the way home Wed.

I have put 9,000 miles on it, now at 123,000.

grand ams are known for this problem, it comes from a faulty antitheft connector at the ignition switch. one fix is to replace the ignition switch but its not necessary until it gets so bad you get stuck often

what is happening is while you are driving that connection comes unconnected for just a moment and the BCM throws a light on your dash. next time you start up its gone.

now when I say you get stuck I mean this connector is already unconnected (just barely) when you go to start the car. what happens then is you start the engine and the BCM sees that there is no voltage on those wires and shuts the fuel injectors off. it just so happens that the shudder of the engine running for 2 seconds will reconnect the loose connection. if this happens do not touch anything. leave the car in the ON position for 10 minutes while the BCM "relearns" the "code." the security will be flashing at this time and will turn off after the 10 minutes. turn key to OFF then start it up and you are good to go. if this happens often it is time to replace the ignition switch
