With fall officially here now just wondering how everyone's summer sales were....Were you guys busier this year than last or slower? With the Economy the way its been did you'll lower prices at all or were people trying to haggle on prices at all??

And did you see a spike in people asking for legal tint jobs over illegal?

I had a pretty good summer...I was crunching the numbers last night and I seem to be about 5% better in gross sales. Also I saw a huge jump in people asking for legal film over illegal....Don't get me wrong I still had the young knuckle heads coming in asking for 5% - 20% all around and I will not do that for someone..I will not put my business in jeopardy just cause some young kids thinks it is cool no to be seen....

Hope everyone had a great year even though the economy has been hard on a lot of people....

my busiest year since going to tint only. Auto was steady as always while flat glass was much better this year then last year. Flat seems to be up and down for me year to year. I am really proud to have been so busy without spending the first dime on advertising.

True that!! Word of mouth has just gotten better and better over the years...Which I know is true but just takes time....Only adv. now for me is through facebook which is free and will take all day long...I say every week I get one or two jobs through facebook which if you add up per year is a pretty penny in my books...

I feel like we were busier this year. tinting was about 50% of what we did here this year, compared to about 60% last year. We were booked out about 2 weeks all summer so I figure we lost a large amount of tint jobs just from ppl not wanting to wait for us to squeeze them in. We kicked ass on wraps, custom graphics and fleet lettering this year which is a better profit margin for us anyway.

If Tint Slime takes off like we think it will, I will be in new bigger building by next summer and hiring some tinters. The Tshirt Factory should be in full swing next summer as well, so will be hiring a couple of ppl to handle that side of the biz.

With as busy as we were I figure I lost about 20k this summer just from not being able to take walk ins and having a full schedule all summer. I hate to lose money when I know with one extra person we could have nabbed the extra $$$. It is a balancing act running your own business for sure, but we told ourselves that we wouldn't kill ourselves anymore working too much, and we had a happier, more peaceful summer :)

      Help me tint my living room windows

      Blinds/curtains will be the best route. You would have to add a dark window film to reduce the sun a good amount but not eliminate it. Anything darker will be extremely noticeable from the outside. Anything lighter will not be drastic enough to make a difference.

      Help me tint my living room windows

      I have a living room with windows on the east and south and knowing what I know about the effectiveness of even the darkest film, which comes with hazards of thermo stress on the dual pane glass ... I set the TV in the corner between the two windows. Viewing the TV and the windows in the same field of vision. There will always be a reflection of the windows on the TV, just muted. Curtains are the best solution for this issue.

      Mutoh cutter

      Anyone using a Mutoh valuecut-2 for cutting tint? I have one that I use for vinyl and plan on buying another cutter just for tint if it will work. Looking to stay with the Mutoh as I am familiar with it. Thanks

      Help me tint my living room windows

      I live in a second story apartment and there are two windows in my living room, one facing east and one facing north. My TV is against the wall facing left and my couch is against the north wall right next to the window. In the late morning and early afternoon the sun shines through the east window and casts an annoying reflection on my TV, and sometime around 1 or 2 pm every day the sun gets right in my eyes when I am sittin or lying on my couch even when I am facing the TV. I want to cover these windows with just the right film for solving all of these problems while also making it not look obvious that I tinted them, and I'm not sure what kind I should use because apparently different brands will have different results even if it's the same percentage, could someone help me out here

      IR or UV Coating on glass.

      The coating can be removed by "dry scraping" with stainless single edge razor blades, but it is very time consuming and tedious. The coating comes off like a super fine powder. If done correctly there is no damage to the glass and you can tint it just fine after a thorough cleaning. I scraped the drivers door clean after making the mistake of scratching the coating but I did not scrape the passenger side. After tinting you could not tell the difference between the two.

      Sure looks like auto glass technology is advancing. I remember the coating on Lexus and some Toyota models could be removed with a glass polish. It took some effort to get to the glass itself and that was an anti-fog coating technology. This IR/UV coating is looking like it is more robust. I wouldn't want to be the one experimenting with whatever product to attempt removal of it. The UV rating is 99%+ reduction, but they limit what they say about IR performance to: Mitigates sense of intense heat on the skin ... Controls rising cabin temperatures. The link is to a company that apparently is deep into providing glass with this coating and they certainly limit info. Take a look for yourself. This appears to be something that could/would expand to more brands/models.
