This is a piece by a bailey on a window cleaning forum that I frequent. Thought you may enjoy. All credit goes to bailey on WCR.

LOVE YOUR JOB!

I live in a small town and we have 2 delis. One is uptown and close to my house. The food is amazing at the atmosphere is pleasant. It is in the old part of town and they have nice little tables outside to sit and enjoy the Southern California weather. The only problem with it is that the girl that works behind the counter has the attitude that she would rather have an ovarian cyst removed than wait on you.

The other deli is downtown. It has great food as well but the price is a little more than the uptown deli. But when you walk in the store, Kory the owner greats you with a smile and calls you by name. She works her deli from 6:00 am to 9:00 pm. Exhausting! Yet she always greats you with a smile. She really loves running a deli and is very appreciative of your patronage.

When I first started this business, my guys and I would go out and do an amazing job on the house. Perfect workmanship in every sense of the word. Yet, I wasn't getting any referrals from them. I thought to myself, "what the hell is wrong with these people? I think that they are all snobs and looking down on me because I clean windows"

Then, one day while sitting down at Kory's deli and watching her interact with her customers, it hit me. It wasn't my customers. It was me!!! It was my fault I wasn't getting the referrals. I had a bad attitude because of my position in life at the time. I wasn't working in my chosen profession that I had worked so hard all of my life. I wasn't making the money I was accustomed to, yet, I was doing this because I was forced into it. I had a bad attitude and it showed! I was ****ed off that I had to go around begging for work, as opposed to my previous company where I spent more time turning down work that looking for it. My demeanor sucked and it showed.

So I sat down and looked at all of the things that I was grateful for and how window cleaning could bring me happiness. The list was surprisingly long. From that day forward I loved what I was doing. Cleaning windows is just a job, but meeting great people, seeing the smile on their face when I have completed the work, the challenge of getting more work and making myself well known in the community; all these things motivated me to be a better business person today than I was yesterday.

Suddenly, my phone was blowing up with referrals.

The best marketing tool in the world is free! Love your job and convey that to your customers. Who would you rather have in your home? Someone who is happy to be working for you, or someone who is upset that they had to wake up in the morning?

I was my own worst enemy, but not any more. I LOVE my job!

Great post !!!! This was me 2 years ago hated coming to work because I had lost the passion for tinting I had when I started my bussniess . I had let the job wear on me . Lucky my Financial situation has changed and I'm Now fortunate enough to do this because I want to . I use to do a ton of Marketing and spend thousands of dollars Every year to keep the bays full , I do no Advertising or very minimal at all now and my phone rings all day long and I have to Contributed to my attitude with my customers when they come in the door or call me . It's really Amazing how far a smile And a friendly greeting will go .

      Since there is no limit of darkness on the top strip, I have wanted to tint it. But I would go very dark, to help with sun glare in the evening.

      Yeah that’s a very fair point to a degree I’m probably overthinking it. I don’t see really significant glare reduction until you get into much darker tint. Like you I think visibility for me is more important living in the country. I’ll probably see what the specs list the differences between 70% and 80% and then double check with the tinter as to what they recommend. Likely will end up with 70% with a strip along the top. Air80 seems to be much more popular, not sure if it’s due to performance or the difference in cost being so much more for the stratos. thank you

      Process

      Hey guys - so I work for a vinyl graphics company that is adding window tinting to their repertoire and I had a question about your guys' ideal process. I have my plotter set up and my window tinting software ready to go, but I am completely ignorant about the way that tint installers prefer that things be cut. Currently, I will plot/weed the tint and cut the backing away as much as I dare before handing it over to the installer. I was thinking that the installer would prefer the tint to be cut to shape which I believe I can achieve with the perf cut on my plotter. Is that the typical process or should I not be worried so much about it being cut to exact shape?

      Im in TX, plenty of of what you mentioned. While I do sit higher in an SUV, glare reduction is not improved much at all with what I have. My 80% is almost clear, not dark at all. With all tint, it adds a bit of reflectivity from the outside, which I notice makes it slightly harder to see from the outside looking in, in the form of a glare not darkness. At the end of the day, it's not permanent, it's only money!

      The answer is to not heat that area too much so that you leave some slack in the film for when you get it to the inside. Also cut your pattern a little large so that you can trim a thread off the edges after shrinking to not have a furled edge. After you do a few of those you'll figure out how much to leave/trim to not have any light gaps. Also I'll leave a hardcard wrapped in a microfiber in the bottom overnight to collect water and keep pressure on the film while it dries. Sometimes you can take the top rail off the glass if the jackwagon boat builder didn't put too much pressure on the glass package when it was installed. If you pull the rail off of a tight package it's a pita to get back on, looking like it could crack the whole time. Congrats on getting it done. I've seen plenty that couldn't, which is why I price them like I do.

      Thx everyone for the tips the install went fine, however i did run into a new problem on the main curve of the glass from thr outside the tint would lay flat on the big curve but when applying it seemed like there was too much tension and it would not stay down i ended up heating it up and flattening down but some of that area got overheated and warped a little, if you know how to tackle this problem please help me thank you!
