08 S5 amp smoked...

first time poster.had a audi s5 last fri. tinted, sent on his way, so he calls me today after a visit to the dealer and tells me his amp is fried and the dealer want almost 2k to fix it! wow! talk about robbery! I ask him if he would let me do some checking around and I'll get back with you. he says cool. so I found a used amp out of a 08 s5 and got it ordered.my question is this thing a plug and play? looks like it's only 3 nuts and a couple of plugs? I plan on checking the maxi fuses on the passenger side as well. anything else to check? I bet I have tinted over a hundred different audis over the last 20 years I have been tinting and never had a problem, and I never knew of this issue. is the solution to take the amp out of every car that has one? seems like a silly place to put it but I don't design cars, just tint the mess the engineers leave behind, Lol! any tricks or tips appreciated. thanks!

Sorry to hear that man. I've heard this problem with the amp getting fried with some audis. I wrapped the amp in a plastic bag, covered with a towel on the last one I did. There was no water when I was finished, but its a good precaution to take.

You will probably have to take it to the dealer to have them flash it to the car after you install it. That's how the GM stuff is anyway. My buddy's shop in Vegas have fried a few. Said they were a grand. Sounds like 2 G's is way high.

3 bolts and a couple plugs is right. Not sure if there is any programming, there isn't when you are using the same amp that came in there. Too easy to not pull when tinting.
