On a level playing field, China could not be that cheap ($.17 a hour). Having no EPA or global pollution standards, and zero worker regulations have made China the cheap labor capital that they are, (and a population of 1.5 billion doesn't hurt). However, China is not what everyone thinks it is. Been there 6 times, Throw all assumptions out the window. The wealth divide is ridiculous. The only way the communist party holds sway is massive domestic growth to the tune of 9% plus ( US and Japan's growth was a stagnant .5% in the past few years). Middle class growth in China has been ridiculous in the past few years. Smartphone users in China account for more than the total US population.  Cities the size of Houston, TX can pop up overnight. You can't breath the air on many days in Beijing, Tianjin, and other outlying cities. There are 54 recognized ethnic groups in China. And it goes on and on. The cheap labor aspect I blame on global corporations. Ethics should transcend borders and nations. The communist party and the Fortune 50 are the real cause of global disparity pollution etc., all to line their pockets at the cost of everyone. Sorry for that long winded post everyone.
