This should get interesting.

I had thought about quitting,,, I've been quit for 5 years now (smoking)

I wound up getting sick with a chest cold,, you know, one of those where when you take a drag of a cig, you can't even inhale it without choking to death,,, one of those type colds.  I decided then to quit.  Being sick and not being able to smoke helped.

After I was no longer sick, I had to go to the Nicotine Gum.  It might help you it might not.

DO NOT START DIPPING TO TRY AND QUIT SMOKING!!  Please!!   :wrong

It's mainly about will power and the WANT to quit.  It's not going to be fun or easy not matter how you choose to quit.

I know this doesn't help much, but I hope you can quit.  I got started back dipping and now am right back where I was with smoking,, trying to figure out how to stop that one.  So I am right there with ya buddy.  Again.. Good luck.

I used Chantix. I've been quit 8 years now. It's no miracle drug but if you take it for a month or so you will really want to stop. After that it still takes a lot of will power. Yes it'll give you bad dreams and you may lose some appetite. No you're not going to go on a rampage and kill people that you weren't already gonna do haha. Whatever route you choose good luck.

I quit smoking in 1993 and did it cold turkey. I continued using chewing tobacco, which was probably the reason it was so easy to quit smoking. I quit using skoal in September 2014 and have not used since. I quit using skoal cold turkey, no gum, no patch, no chantix or anything. It was the most difficult challenge to give up. But I am glad that I quit.

Thanks for the replies guys

I have been smoking for 36 years now and I need to stop because I will need another neck surgery, not sure when that will be as I have to wait for the symptoms to recur like the first time 5 years ago when I had my first surgery, my spinal cord in my neck is very close again to being pinch as seen in my recent MRI with contrast but they want to hold off till I start having symptoms again.

They want to do a fusion on my neck and I can not smoke for a minimum of 30 days before.

Yeah I can say don't replace it with chewing tobacco. I smoke for a couple years in high school. Got fed up with hacking my lungs out every night. Quit cold turkey, then picked up chewing a couple months later because of the convenience and being able to do it anywhere. Tried quitting numerous times with no success, I'd say it's way harder to quit than smoking because you can do it anywhere, anytime.
