I have paid for a few door panels in my day. I still have a $350 VW door panel from a CC I think under my tool box right now. Brand new in the box. I ordered it the second I made the mistake. Owner still got mad and didn't return. He Couldn't or Wouldn't understand that accidents happen(he was an angry/unhappy person anyway).

It doesn't take much to burn a panel and VW are notorious for having thin vinyl.

They should have manned up on this one instead of trying to hide something.

To me it looks more like something was dragged across the panel causing it to tear/rip. If you look towards the right of the major damage on the second picture, you can see other flaws that do not appear to be burn marks.

Yes there is more damage to the right, in real life it is not a tear, more like the panel wrinkling from what appears to be it thinning out in that area. Reason that I know it is not a rip is because the panel has lost its shape around that edge, not to mention the texture loss that you can see it the mentioned area compared to the rest of the panel.

Definatly a heat gun melt,,he needs to buy you a new panel or

I had one repaired(mercadees) by a guy that fixes stuff like that at dealers,,but that's worse kinda big

Gasket shields that I use allows me safe inside heat gun use after a couple melts way back

The repair guy melted some plastic pellets to fill in missing material and had patterns of the panel grain and it worked with a little paint stuff

It was my 1st job with windows that dropped when opening door

Lucked out that it came out great for $50 instead of a lot more

I usually try to remind people to stay as polite and cordial through this as much as possible. I hope it goes well for you. Good luck

Absolutely, thanks for the good wishes. Updated pics in first post to show more general details as requested.

From my observation if a heat gun were to have done this damage it would have been when the glass was up. If the glass were up then there would have been more melting on the top side of the panel. The position of this damage tells me it couldn't have been a heat gun that caused the this (initially)

It is possible that the blade holder scraped the panel during cleaning.

To me it looks like a hot panel that had a tool run across hot vinyl. Even a yellow or red turbo will do that if the vinyl has been softened. Either way, I am almost positive that is heat gun damage of some sort. :twocents
