Don't the plastic industry people use a soldering iron with a flat head like a clothing iron for welding plastic materials together?

thats the idea, but not to melt the film, merely to form it on the DM. normal heat shrinking to take the glass curvature is still necessary as per regular installation requirements. this step only deals specifically for the DM issue.

it sounded like a far fetched idea initially to me too, but give it a go and it will be "why didnt I think of it earlier'...

ill give it a try huper and see how well it works for me. cant blame anyone else for not trying it though. it does sound a little scary. but then again I am the guy who purposely burns film to get rid of small creases.
