I've got to do a LS 430 thismorning, I do a lot of Lexus's, but this one is really the hardest one. Does anybody else have trouble with the front passenger glass peeling? There is some sort of built in rain x on the glass which lets nothing stick to the window. The gasket is very tight. Latley I've been taking off the door panel just on that side, and removing the rivets holding in the gasket to remove it. This takes very long, does anybody have any other suggestions.

I got a news letter from llumar once in regards to the rain x or whatever they call it on a Lexus. Don't remember which one, but there is one that most films won't adheir to. When my rep gets into work in a couple hours I'll check into it.

Some Lexus ( and other vehicle) models have what is known as a titanium dioxide coating on the front D & P glass. At least that is what is stated on the patent filed for this concept.

This coating when exposed to o2/UV/h2o (found in the atmosphere, duh) causes a high energy flux, repelling anything on its surface. Self cleaning, defog, etc. It's a safety feature so drivers have unobstructed view of their outside rearview mirrors, as well as the ability to use the side windows without fogging up.

You'll know it the minute you spray moisture on the glass... it'll immediately bead up. In time this coating will destroy a film's pressure sensitive adhesive. Sometimes you'll see an immediate challenge with the film fingers not wanting to stick well, other times the consumer returns with the film falling away from the glass or has easily peeled up.

LLuLLu issued a tech warning on this subject 2-3 years ago indicating that if the vehicle had this coating present on its glass surface, the film would not be warrantied.

Strangely enough the second go 'round tinting stays in place because it is suspected that while the coating destroys the adhesive, the coating is destroyed as well. :lol

Gasket wizards, so you don't have to take off those panels. Normaly we get fingers that come off of the thick defroster lines. Just heat them up a push then down. F1 film seems to stick to the front windows just fine so far.

I also remember a memo from llumar in a news letter stating that to get rid of this coating is to buff it by hand with a car polish untill it's all off the windows then the tint will stick to it fine, however it could take 30 minutes on one window to do this so beware that you should charge more for this and I would let the customer choose wheather they want this material taken off their windows.

if it was me I would send them down the road and say that you can't tint this car plus no warranty.

I would check the window first by spraying it with your solution to see if it's on there to begin with.

Had to be no-brains at the distributor level... I remember the remedy was not to be found or put in writing. The one thing I do know about CPF as a company... they will not instruct anyone to modify or destroy any automotive component in order to tint the windows.

      Removable rigid window tint sheets - WTF?

      I created an account just to respond here. I'm not a "tinter" or whatever yall may call yourselves but I came across this product and thought that it looked pretty cool and something I could do myself. I ordered from Lazeway and spent like $150 for two packages. The product is from China although they claim all this America stuff on the website. All i received was two simple rolls of tint, nothing special. I was totally scammed and now I'm looking all over the internet for anyone talking about this product to let them know. Dont buy from them.

      Since there is no limit of darkness on the top strip, I have wanted to tint it. But I would go very dark, to help with sun glare in the evening.

      Yeah that’s a very fair point to a degree I’m probably overthinking it. I don’t see really significant glare reduction until you get into much darker tint. Like you I think visibility for me is more important living in the country. I’ll probably see what the specs list the differences between 70% and 80% and then double check with the tinter as to what they recommend. Likely will end up with 70% with a strip along the top. Air80 seems to be much more popular, not sure if it’s due to performance or the difference in cost being so much more for the stratos. thank you

      Process

      Hey guys - so I work for a vinyl graphics company that is adding window tinting to their repertoire and I had a question about your guys' ideal process. I have my plotter set up and my window tinting software ready to go, but I am completely ignorant about the way that tint installers prefer that things be cut. Currently, I will plot/weed the tint and cut the backing away as much as I dare before handing it over to the installer. I was thinking that the installer would prefer the tint to be cut to shape which I believe I can achieve with the perf cut on my plotter. Is that the typical process or should I not be worried so much about it being cut to exact shape?

      Im in TX, plenty of of what you mentioned. While I do sit higher in an SUV, glare reduction is not improved much at all with what I have. My 80% is almost clear, not dark at all. With all tint, it adds a bit of reflectivity from the outside, which I notice makes it slightly harder to see from the outside looking in, in the form of a glare not darkness. At the end of the day, it's not permanent, it's only money!

      The answer is to not heat that area too much so that you leave some slack in the film for when you get it to the inside. Also cut your pattern a little large so that you can trim a thread off the edges after shrinking to not have a furled edge. After you do a few of those you'll figure out how much to leave/trim to not have any light gaps. Also I'll leave a hardcard wrapped in a microfiber in the bottom overnight to collect water and keep pressure on the film while it dries. Sometimes you can take the top rail off the glass if the jackwagon boat builder didn't put too much pressure on the glass package when it was installed. If you pull the rail off of a tight package it's a pita to get back on, looking like it could crack the whole time. Congrats on getting it done. I've seen plenty that couldn't, which is why I price them like I do.

      Thx everyone for the tips the install went fine, however i did run into a new problem on the main curve of the glass from thr outside the tint would lay flat on the big curve but when applying it seemed like there was too much tension and it would not stay down i ended up heating it up and flattening down but some of that area got overheated and warped a little, if you know how to tackle this problem please help me thank you!
