Painted Matrix removal

Recommended Posts

Hello,

new here. Apologies up front for anything I say or do wrong :)

I had my 99 Trans Am back window matrix painted when they tinted around the time of purchase in 99.

In need of a new tint job and the paint had a defect I want to fix. (looks like its got a light spot from day one but didn't have it fixed at the time) Has anyone ever removed the paint on the matrix? How did you do it successfully?

What is the best way now in the future of tinting to cover the matrix? Opinions from the experts?

Thanks in advance.

The paint should come right off with a razor blade or #0000 steel wool and maybe some window cleaner. If you want to simply paint over it then a flat black paint will be your best match. Several light coats. Avoid spraying heavy coat. When I did those cars brand new we tinted the matrix. I think most will go that route...The reason for painting was because it would turn white at the very top...you can sand the matrix a bit and that will help but usually not prevent all of it. Hope this helps.
