PPF install quality - refund?

Recommended Posts

I just took my Tacoma in get a 3m ppf clear bra installed on the front of the truck. I'm concerned with the install quality but I'm not sure if this is normal or not. There's a bunch of really poor looking, jagged cuts with small frays sticking out, some areas where there's very visible gaps in the film, many soap bubbles, and they scratched the underlying paint in a few places. I paid $575 for this so I would expect a much better quality install. I registered the 3m warranty, but I'm not sure if I should contact them or reach out to the installer asking them to reinstall some pieces or offer a partial refund for the poor install and damage to my paint.

This is my first time getting a ppf film installed, so I wanted to get a professional opinion on whether this is acceptable workmanship or not?

that's a horrible installation. none of that would have been allowed to leave my shop. honestly i would be hesitant to let them try again since they could cut into the paint or otherwise damage the vehicle. my vote is to take it back and have them refund you as well as remove the film. then take it to another shop to get the film replaced.

I'm sorry you had that installation experience... Pretty bad.

I'd go for a full refund and have another shop do a good installation.  (Where are you located?)

Did they show you an installation at their shop before you got on the schedule?

You want to have the installation shop do the removal so that you can check for cut damage in your paint.  If you have another shop remove, or you do it yourself, then they may try to pass on the blame for any damage.

Those pics made me cringe, damn.

Hope you got it resolved, probably would have gotten a refund and went else where because that install is terrible, not minor issues based on all the glue lines and separation as well as the poor cuts.

$575 can be really cheap depending on what you mean by "front of the truck"

very poor installation and to make things worse, i saw some cut paint. take it back, tell them to remove it and give you your money back. Clearly an inexperienced installer. at this point, why do you protect damaged paint? not trying to be mean, but sometimes we go for the cheapest option or don't compare pricing to get a ballpark figure. Lets assume bumper and headlights for $575 vs the other guys $850 price. that should tell you something.
