factory tinted glass is soft and scratches easily? I have 2007 GS and I think I scratched whatever factory coating was on the window

You guys tint a lot. Lexus has always had factory non-film tinted windows, especially on rear windows/doors.

Is that supposed to be a soft coating that is easily scratched?

I peeled off my aftermarket tint today, and scrubbed the glass with a non-scratch pad, and it left a bunch of scratches on the driver side glass!

I'm wondering if lexus added coatings to the glass 15 years ago.

Non scratch pads are not all created equal. Glass coatings have been a thing for a loooong time. If you didn't soften the glue up first and had to scrub it down to the bottom, yeah it's likely grooved. SprayAway glass cleaner is about the best off the shelf softener available without damaging interior pieces. I try to tell people to just take it to a pro.

Some listen, others complain about the price just before damaging something more expensive. Live and learn I guess. Stuff happens.

holy crap bullet dodged

today i took a closer look, and the scratches were actually the clear ply layer of the ceramic film I removed.

Yesterday I couldn't tell there was still a clear layer on the window.

the adhesive I removed was the intra-ply adhesive.

the actual glass isn't scratched.

I spent hours trying to polish out scratches from the film. haha.
