Metallic film tint

Hello,

My wife and I recently purchased a new 2004 Chevy Malibu LT with tinted windows. The dealer said that they had the tint installed, but did not mention the place where it was install, so it is safe to assume it was not installed by the factory. The car has the radio antenna imbedded in the rear window. We are experiencing poor radio reception in some AM radio stations and when we read the car's manual it stated that metallic film tint can affect radio receptions. I was wondering if someone without tinting knowledge can determine whether metallic film tint was installed or am I going to have to rely on the honesty of the car dealer to tell me who installed the tint ?

Thanks for any response

I want to see that happen :lol

If you take it to any quality shop in your area, they shoudl be able to give you a clue to what type of film was applied, metalic or not. If the dealership does provide you with the name of the shop, just take it to them with your concern. But don't expect anything for free

Metallized film can and does interfere with AM radio reception. In some rare cases it can interfere with some aftermarket car alarms. Just take it to any tint shop and ask them. Or ask your car dealer to find out exactly what brand and type of film was installed. :thumb

I would say that it is safe to assume that an aftermarket film was installed on your car.

I'm going to assume since the car dealership had it done, it's probably just some dyed crap that will turn purple next summer. dealerships aren't usually into paying for the good stuff. they want it as cheap as possible so they can make more money off YOU, the initial buyer.

don't trust ANYTHING that comes from the lips of a car salesman. take it to a tinting facility and ask them. they should be able to give you an idea.

It is just a thought, but before you rush off to change the film, please realize that if the film is metallized, you will suffer a heat increase inside the car that may be more unpleasant than the static. I listen to XM however, so the talk stations are completely different.

exactly, who the hell listens to AM (or FM) anymore? I've had XM for about a year and a half, I haven't listened to AM or FM since.
