"factory tint"

we all know there's no such thing, it's only colored glass. but you can't tell a customer that for shiat. we all know it is purely cosmetic and offers none of the benefits that film offers.

car manufacturers have been grouping the "deep tinted glass" or "privacy glass" in with other options and making it a package. so the customer really has no way of knowing how much they actually paid for that "factory tint".

but here's the sticker on a new 2004 chevy extended cab with the "deep tinted glass" on the rear glass and the two little quarter glasses.

kind of expensive if you ask me. they could have those three windows tinted for about the same price, and gain all the benefits that film offers, like UV and heat rejection and protection from broken glass. not to mention a wide range of choices with different types and shades of film.

basically, after these people pay $107 for the back three, then come have the 2 fronts done for $75, they end up paying $182 for an extended cab truck to be tinted. :shock

try charging $182 (in this area) to tint an extended cab truck and see how long you stay in business.

I mentioned that to the GSM at the Chevy house down the street about a 6 months ago. I told him to order every single truck without tint, then have us tint them for less than they pay GM. We only get $109 to tint an ex-cab truck for dealers. And who doesn't like tinting the new body GM trucks? He just looked at me like I was crazy. Maybe it's because I was wearing my work uniform (shorts and sweatshirt) in 20 degree weather. :jerkit

he looked at you like you were crazy because he's just like every ignorant soul out there.

the manufacturer says it's "tint", and it looks like tint--hell, it must be tint.

and since customers believe every single fukkin word that comes from a new car salesmans mouth, there's no reason to think a lowly little tinter might know what the hell they're talking about.

when they tell me they want the fronts to match the rest, I say "no problem." and tint it legal. when they see it's not as dark as the back, I always say "you said you wanted it to match, and the color matches perfectly." :jerkit

ou think that's a shiatty way to do business? I don't. I think it's shiatty when a customer asks me to break the law.
