Hi All! Sorry haven't been around much, the usual is to blame, long hours and such. Our home computer keyboard died, kids dumped too much junk on it I guess. Using laptop now, but usually too lazy to bring it home. I have an unhappy customer, not sure what to do about this one. Have to call her back on Monday. Apparently we tinted some 18 yr. old girls car last week. Next day her mom calls, irate that we tinted the car legally with a 35% vlt film. She feels we took advantage of her daughter by not letting her know that darker illegal films were in existence, and since we didn't offer her illegal film we are taking advantage of her. She wants us to retint the car with illegal film for free as we didn't offer her the illegal in the first place. My office manager has talked with her several times, and she's requested to speak with the owners directly. She feels our customer service is horrible because we don't offer illegal to anyone who walks through the door, and we won't just replace it for free. I wonder exactly what she'd be doing had we done it illegally, and her dear precious daughter had gotten a ticket. I suppose she'd have led the cops to our door, and expected us to pay the ticket and redone car with legal in addition to who knows what else. What on earth should I do with this one?? Incidentally she's also throwing it in our face that other shops in the area would have done it illegally, and we are somehow screwed because we didn't offer it in the first place.

apologize that you don't provide illegal services to *uninformed customers* (<- key phrase), say you were given the impression that the daughter had done her research and wished to remain within the legal guidelines. offer to remove the film if they so desire, but not replace with another shade. if they're that unhappy, I'm not sure how you can make it right. it's not like she can take you to court.

in PA, practically everything is illegal. so you start off with every 'car' customer a nice version of "this is illegal, are you sure you want it."

easy just spout random phrases at random times in the conversation like "Takes one to know one" and "if a tree falls in the forest and the cow jumped over the moon why does wood float?" thats fun to do, screws the customer up really good :spit

tell this dumbass mom that you don't tint illegally because it's against the law. and you have no desire to help her daughter hide her crack smoking from police officers.

seriously, tell her if she has a problem with it to take it up with the BBB or a lawyer, and hang up. that will be the end of it.

then mail her one of these :spit

As soon as this happened, I was wondering what TTS would say in this situation. Now I know. Of all things in the world, I'm taking advantage of her by abiding by the law.

honestly, what I would say if this was my situation is this---

"are you fukking serious?" then hang up on them.

I don't waste my time on dumbazzes like that. the way I see it, they're going to talk bad about me anyway, so why help them? or even talk to them?

but then, I'm not exactly what you would call a "model business owner". :spit

:spit to skittles and TTS! As far as hanging up on her, she's already done that to the office manager. If I owned a smokeshop and sold pot on the side, I guess she'd expect us to offer it to everyone that came in? As far as not offering it to her, we have samples of all the films we carry on our walls, its not like her daughter didn't see it. She could have asked for it if she wanted it darker, which she did not. We have photo albums and pics on the walls and counters, she could definatley have noticed darker films in there. Case of dumb 18 yr. old with a mom who always rescues her. I think I am going to tell her our dealings were with her daughter not her, her daughter is of age and made the decision and if she's not happy with it, SHE needs to discuss it with us, not her mother. We showed her the film before we ever put it on her car, she should have asked about how light it was if there was an issue. Buyers remorse, kinda like the last guy who didn't get a scratch warranty at the time he bought his car and now has ruined all windows and expects it done for free.
