anybody here ever try using surgical scalpels for film cutting?

Have been looking at some diamond and ceramic blade scalpels,

these things are damn expensive, but they are supposed to retain an edge for a very long time

I use to use them back in the early 80's for rear screen splicing on the outside of the rear back glass. Thinking that being sharper they wouldn't scratch glass.

They were sure good but deadly expensive per cut. Best thing about them was that is you used the crescent chaped ones, when you got right to the side, you could cut right on through using the shape of the blade and tip without scoring the glass.

Refining of skills has meant the use now of stainless steel Olfas and a fraction of the cost. Same result.
