Maybe manufacturing and components have gotten better. However it is cool and hopefully doesn't become popular for decades to come

I can see in the not so distant future wide spread use of smart glass. Building owners will be forced to use more energy efficient glass systems if they want to get a building permit. It is happening nationally in residential construction. Tougher mass checks and minimum R19 walls.

i met with a company years ago who were making this product,they were out of long island.they wanted my opinion.i told them it would never work on cars.i didnt even like the way it worked on flat glass.if you press hard on the film,the 'gel' would slide to the sides and leave a clear hole.i also didnt like the clear border around the edge.they would seam it with 'black tape'.just not clean enough product for me,especially for the large price tag

Correct! Decade old technology "yes" but look at the speed of technology. As the ROI becomes shorter and as cost continue to drop it will become a standard in the building envelope.

The right window film will always be a better choice for the property owner. It costs less and works better. It last longer has no maintenance requirement and is inexpensive to replace.

What is the replacement cost of smart windows? Can any glazer do it or does it require special training and skills. One broken smart window will probably eat up five years of energy savings in replacement cost.

Will those smart windows hold shattered glass together?

The only people that benefit are the architects that get a bigger commission from a more expensive product.

Window film is still the most beneficial and cost effective home improvement available.

But we are tinters here and knew that already.
