  1. This is such a vague question and impossible to answer without more detail as to the situation. Are you a hired gun or a sub working on a 1099. Do you have your own insurance and tools, your own vehicle ? ..Or are you a 40 hr a week employee that’s paid on performance ? A good hired gun will hang 750 sf or more on a daily basis. More if it’s commercial with large openings of similar size. When we hire a hired gun, We figure 1.50 for simple work, but we also have a prep person going in front of them and again behind them doing clean up. So basically the installer just cuts, and installs. No cleaning the glass no moving obstacles, and no picking up scraps. ..just lick and stick.

  2. Its been a while since I posted here, But ill through you a bone. Do you need a roll of each film...NO. Should you have inventory ..YES. What inventory do you need ? ..It depends on who you plan to sell too. Resi clients.. Have a nice neutral 50% film in stock. Commercial..Have a roll of Silver 20 and a roll of DR15 and maybe a roll of DR35. These  will likely be easy sells and frequent movers for a large sector. Learn all the specs and know them. Know what they all mean and be able to explain it like you are talking to a 5 year old. Learn your competitions product line and be able to point out reasons your film is better. We stock about 500 rolls of film at all times, It took years to be able to do this financially. But when we get calls to do 3K sf of frost or Dusted Crystal etc.. We can be there tomorrow. And don't have to wait on material. Or be at the mercy of supply chain issues. It also allows us to sell what we know we can furnish immediately.

Lets suppose you are in the market for a used car and the dealership has two that are just about identical as far as miles and options.  One was protected with PPF and the other wasn't.  Would you be willing to pay more for the car that looked brand new as far as the paint condition over the one that had dozens of rock chips and scratches?  If so, there's a ROI.  Not only that, but most people would assume that if the original owner was willing to pay big money up front for PPF, they probably took better care of the vehicle, got their oil changed and did regular maintenance as scheduled vs the owner that let their car get beat up.

I have a few vehicles.... 11 to be exact and 2 of them are Harleys. One is a Porsche 911 that I bought used. My wife has a Porsche we bought new. I looked for a long time to find the right used 911. Saw plenty of them with PPF and I personally would not buy one with it on the car. Told many dealers that as well. The new Porsche has no PPF on it ...no chips either. To your question would I think someone who paid money for it would take better care of the car,,,,,NO, I think someone who had it may have thought they could drive it like they stole it.

😬 on average, what should a seasoned flat glass installer make, per square foot? Is $1.25/above or below average?

It really depends on numerous things. Art you a 1099 or employee looking for a paycheck based on what you do every day ? Do you have your own insurance and uipmnt ? Do you supply your own transportation and pay those costs ? What are you able to install per day ( on average ) ? Are you responsible for the cost of and wasted material ? ( piece gets creased etc ) Do you warranty your labor for any period of time and what about retainage ? ...can you pass a pee test ?

So lets ditch the term ROI, because it obviously doesn't apply to ANY automotive add-on.  I would learn more towards "Is it worth it for the customer who is buying the product?"   And that, no matter how much experience you have, you can not quantify.   If you could you would not be arguing ROIs and how people modify their cars.

Im pretty sure everyone here is in business because they sell and install things that people want to buy.  Not sure how saying PPF is worthless makes any sense.  But I understand your thought process.

So to put this in crystal clear perspective, If Joe customer wants to spend 3K. And put PPF on his car because he doesn't want to see a stone chip in his bumper.. and that's the main objective....and the there is no thought that in the future it will pay a dividend of some sort.. than have at it.

Sounds correct.   So why are there lots of Auto Accessory stores, tint shops, ppf shops, graphics shops all in business and making a profit because customers want all that stuff?

Thats not for ROI, its for customer satisfaction.  Just like PPF.  Its for customers to keep their car clean and damage free for the time they own it.  Not necessarily for when they trade it in or sell it.  Although when selling it, the new customer will be more pleased with the fact the front end is almost completely chip and scratch free.  I have never told a customer its for a ROI.  The Customer reaches out and asks for a PPF installation because they want it so they can keep their car looking new.

Has nothing to do with ROI.   Just like you said.

Car owners want to personalize them... Just like Harley owners...If a car owner wants to put 3K worth of ppt on their car because they don't want to see a chip..well thats their prerogative. It will most likely do that. But rest assured.. at trade time that 3K is not coming back. in all reality they will probably see a 1000, to 1500 hit behind what it would bring without it.

Referring to ROI for PPF, how would you calculate any ROI for any automotive product?  Window Tint, Graphics, Wraps, Wheels, Aero-kits etc?   Does anyone have a way to determine that or is that something that is based on each owner experience?    Just wondering since the general automotive aftermarket all seem to fall into the same category.    Anyone?

ROI for something automotive.... Well hypothetically if you got your car detailed before going to trade it in....You would likely get your 150.00 or more back in ACV. Window film is likely a non ROI particularly if its illegal or to dark in the state where it is sold. Graphics big net negative ROI, Wheels.... never going to bring what you paid at trade time, Most dealers want stock trades...They may be able to push a wholesaler for a couple hundred more dollars but thats about it.Aero kit AKA the "Puertarican Package".... negative...zero ROI ...custom sterio..also zero. PPF also zero and quite often a deduct at trade time...particularly when it needs to be redone or a couple years old and looks like azz. We were in the used car business for several years. Dealers want stock, simple , generic cars, not add on crap that will cause them warranty headaches down the road. A high end car dealer would rather buy a stock( 911 for example ) with no tint, no Puertarican Package, no PPF, no custom wheels, no custom stereo, etc. At auction..all of these things hurt the car on the block.

  8. Tint World Franchises burn through employees like firecrackers on the 4th of July. Corporate has a handbook the franchise owners live by. It tells the what to pay, when to pay and how to pay for virtually every aspect of the shop. .. It's all geared to make the store profitable. That in of its of is a good thing.. but it's hard or impossible for a quality installer to garner their true market value from the box store
