  1. We almost always clean the edge of caulk joints and cut them back to expose the bevel on the edge of the glass. .. No other way that I know of provides better results.
  2. We started a social media campaign about a year of two ago. Understand that we are 100% commercial and 90+% of that is deco. ..That said..The FB posting is basically useless. Our target customer is never going to find us on FB... ever. But we have updates added to our FB and web page on a monthly basis to keep it updated and not get stale. I'm told this helps with search. Depending on what type of customer you are targeting, social media could help and could also be a waste of time.
  3. Tint school.....where to begin.. . . I would start by looking for more than some guy who is going to teach you which side of the film is sticky and then give you the number to the customer service desk so you can order film at retail plus 30% prices.. A good "tint school" should involve several days of marketing and sales traning. Also your chosen school should invest time in you and do some research into your area and demographic ..and offer a tailored plan of action for you. ..No need to try and open a auto tint shack if there are already 40 of them in a 5 mile radius. .. A good school should also inform you of ALL the brands available on the market and supply you with the reps names and numbers for your area. A good school will help you formulate a sales strategy for gaining business ....and keeping it. They should help inform you what it takes to keep the business successful and how to scale for growth.. I could go on and on... But there are thousands of guys who can show you how to stick plastic on glass... That's the easy part.
  4. I don't know the model .....I think 8600 something or another. I may have a. Local sign shop friend I know come by and help set it up. .. Honestly now that we print film..the plotter is only useful for a limited number of projects.
  5. I bought a new graphtek something 72" about 6 months ago... couldn't get the thing to work and haven't touched it since....called my rep a few days ago about getting it going and it appears the guy they had that knows how they work..was laid off... now it's a 6500.00 coat hanger.
  6. Global is a solid film. Virtually the only film manufacturer that produces its own product from start to finish.
  7. .....more Tint World stores have gone tits up tits upI can count..and don't expect that another one would fix a warranty issue from a different shop. ...if I were you I would look for a local installer that has been in business for several years..not a big box type joint.
  8. Google window tinting near me......I would imagine there are numerous shops
  9. I don't know where they source their film these days, I would be weary of these type of chain store types. It's a little like going to McDonalds.... A quick meal but you will probably feel like crap a little later.
  10. Security film on residential is always speculative. If you do not have frames that will accept some sort of attachment system..it's a waste of time and money. Think of it this way.. Applying safety film to your glass is essentially turning it into a makeshift piece of laminated glass..just not as good. The windshield on your car is laminated glass. The membrane is sandwiched between the glass itself.. And has urethane around it holding it to the cars structure. ...without that attachment.. The windshield is basically useless...same with not having a proper attachment with film on a home. And many residential frames simply do not have adequate provisions to do so.
  11. Well than you already know the ropes. I would suspect that if you presented them with your own draft of a contract and expected them to sign it... they wouldn't. I also believe the "exclusive" teratorry you believe you have solidified..is only safe as long as another shop does not want in and is able to stroke a large check to do so.
  12. I suspect they will provide you with THEIR "contract" for any exclusivie territory..... And good luck with all that...
  13. It depends on what customer you are looking for. IMO FB is the flea market of advertising,....lots of people..lots of crap... And the people have no money. .. Banners can be effective If you have a high traffic flow I front of. Your shop..and better if its a high flow with regular passerbys so they see your flag several times, then pull in on they way home some night. A flag flapping in the breeze at a highway on ramp for window tinting... Not worth the material it's made from. If I were to open a auto tint shop.. ( and I never would ) ...I would get a really nice vehicle, all pimped out and lettered...and frequent car shows as well as cars and coffee type gatherings. These are places where you can expect to get higher quality customers and likely many of them have several cars.
  14. We have bought from Sun Distributing, genuinely nice people and go out of their way to help.
  15. My reference was silver 50.... and it is actually relatively invisible if it's on IG. ... But if you are talking about a ceramic 35... that particular film will have TSEA in the high 50s / low 60s...very suspect on IG units. Better option would be a DR film and the same dynamics hold true with TSEA and reradaiting heat with the ceramic..just worse.
  16. Performs better ...based on what ? ..A simple Silver 50 will in most all cases actually perform better than a ceramic 50 based on TSER.. at a fraction of the material cost. Now basing it on a ROI perspective.. it will likely blow a ceramic out of the water due to cost and reradiated heat.. unless of course VLR needs to be extremely low ..IE, HOA requirements. As far as what someone feels on the other side of the glass... in virtually all cases a film/glass combo with lower TSEA will be more comfortable on the film side of the glass. ..This statement assumes similar TSER values between the specific media’s in question. Meaning that a traditional film with a 50 VLT and a 50% +\- TSER and a TSEA in the 35% range with a VLR in the 15% range will inevitably be “more comfortable “ than a ceramic 50 with a 50% TSER that has a 6% VLR and 44% TSEA.
  17. .....Ceramic film goes not "perform" better..It simply has different stats as to what it does with heat. Ceramic films absorb where as traditional films will reflect more of the heat. In fact.. with re radiation ..ceramics will in many cases perform worse than a traditional film of the same VLT. ...the biggest advantage to a ceramic is the low visible reflectance
  18. I spent the day on the printer. Have to install this on Sunday.
