This is such a vague question and impossible to answer without more detail as to the situation. Are you a hired gun or a sub working on a 1099. Do you have your own insurance and tools, your own vehicle ? ..Or are you a 40 hr a week employee that’s paid on performance ? A good hired gun will hang 750 sf or more on a daily basis. More if it’s commercial with large openings of similar size. When we hire a hired gun, We figure 1.50 for simple work, but we also have a prep person going in front of them and again behind them doing clean up. So basically the installer just cuts, and installs. No cleaning the glass no moving obstacles, and no picking up scraps. ..just lick and stick.

Its been a while since I posted here, But ill through you a bone. Do you need a roll of each film...NO. Should you have inventory ..YES. What inventory do you need ? ..It depends on who you plan to sell too. Resi clients.. Have a nice neutral 50% film in stock. Commercial..Have a roll of Silver 20 and a roll of DR15 and maybe a roll of DR35. These  will likely be easy sells and frequent movers for a large sector. Learn all the specs and know them. Know what they all mean and be able to explain it like you are talking to a 5 year old. Learn your competitions product line and be able to point out reasons your film is better. We stock about 500 rolls of film at all times, It took years to be able to do this financially. But when we get calls to do 3K sf of frost or Dusted Crystal etc.. We can be there tomorrow. And don't have to wait on material. Or be at the mercy of supply chain issues. It also allows us to sell what we know we can furnish immediately.

Negative. .. If we show up somewhere that the glazer put the caulk on with a floor broom.... it gets removed. It's either that or they get another company to do the film. ... We have been around long enough enough to know what to do and when to do it.

If you decide to get into FG, I have a few tips. First, examine your market. Are you looking toward residential or commercial. If you are green in FG, starting in resi is a better option. Commercial contractors won't give you the time of day if you can't perform, carry significant insurance, and have a problem waiting for money. With resi, first thing to do is clean up your act. Far too. Any "tinters" show up in some type of Honda of Toyota with wheels that look like they are on broken axles, Sterio blasting some Snoop Dog crap, and dress like they should be selling a 50 rock in some back ally. People don't want this on their property let alone in their home.
Dress like you are going to a job interview...where you really want the job. You must learn, know and understand your product, as well as every other product your competitors offer. Know the pros and cons of all of them and be ready to explain them  in a way a 5 year old can understand to the homeowner. Know what the different glass types are and how film effects them, know what your costs goin in are and what your costs going out will be. Be able to show the homeowner how the film will work and benefit them via some solar tool. IE BTU meter, heat lamp, UV card etc. Have nice, well laid out and glossy pamphlets that back up your sales pitch that you can give to the homeowner.. Bring pieces of film with you that you can actually install on the glass if needed so the customer can see it on their home.
This business is such a blind purchase transaction, what this means is that it is really no different than being a painter, carpet installer or even a mattress salesman. People are buying blind, they have no idea how paint, film, carpet of mattresses are made... And they really don't care. They just want someone to solve a problem.
I can go on for days about this but it's basic business sence and practices.
..Now Commercial.... Which is our primary business, is a different animal entirely. On the front end making the initial contacts it's similar to resi. Meaning you need to show a strong knowledge of product and present your business in the most favorable light possible. But after that it's all about the numbers and performance. Commercial contractors don't give a shit if you are "the best" .. They want you to get in, get out, and not mess up their hair. Just do your job, quickly, as cheap as possible and without causing them any problems.

I posted this in the wrong thread earlier. But it's a 18' DFD Dry Erase white board. Job was about 250 lineal feet total of the same film.

I have said it before,  ..A monkey with a squeegee can tint a window.  If these "tint schools" are only going to show you how to put the shit on the glass... it's a waste of money. A school should spend more time teaching you the business, teaching you the marketing, teaching you who and where to target customers in your specific area, etc. ...

You need to remember...all these new film brands are not mfrs. They are simply reboxers, they just meet a MOQ order with one of 2 or 3 actual mfrs or converters and away they go. A few of the other offbrand reboxers buy from a importer who supplies them with material that is made in Korea. .. then rebox it. .. In a nut shell, ..if you have as little as 20k to invest... you can pretty easily set up your own line of film.
Anyone who tells you otherwise is either lying to you or has no idea what they are talking about.

Focus your efforts on building your commercial base...Homeowners are a giant time sucking, needy , aggravating pile of grief. They are typically a one ride pony that you never see again. Your commercial customers will call you on a monthly, weekly even daily basis to do work... work that IS going to happen...not a homeowner that wants to "think" about tinting 4 windows after getting 5 bids.... Homeowners suck period. We rarely do onsite measurements for them today, We have them email of txt us pictures..we then give them a general idea as to what it will cost. ..If they don't choke on the price, we schedule a install time and date..bring 2 or 3 options for film and they pick one while we are there. ...1 trip, little to no wasted time. ..and move on.

Different sounds resonate at different frequencies. I have no idea what the science is behind any of them. I would suspect that what is being used in OE auto is engineered to mitigate wind and other low frequency noises. But probably not sirens or horns that are high frequency and DB.
